May also want to follow Payton when he gets back into coaching. Depending on his contract situation, it gets a little difficult if he’s living for a lateral position. But, if he takes a demotion this year, Payton gets traded next year, he can then go to w Payton and get promoted to OC; and Allen gets a year w his guy while still keeping even more of the core

I agree. Only way I see him wanting to leave is if he isn’t really calling plays; if he’s the Carmichael of KC. On the other hand why do we want an OC that we know may be gone in a year? We want stability
The real issue is that KC can block it if it’s a lateral move. If I understand the NFL rules properly, a team can block another team from stealing their coaches unless it’s a promotion. Correct me if I’m wrong

Ken Dorsey would be a great pick if we could grab him. Coached Newton in his MVP season and has done a great job with Allen in Buffalo.
Duce Staley would also be a great hire if we want a new identity of the offensive side of the ball.
And of course, Joe Brady will always be a name I’m cool with.
If they wanna go in house, Ronald Curry would be a good choice.

I doubt Pete takes a demotion. Probably will get the Assistant Head Coach title and move back to to positional coach, as Dan Cambell and Nielsen did. More team responsibilities. Honestly, I think the interview with DA included PC and went something like this.

He may need to leave Andy’s wing to get a HC job. Dude has interviewed at least a dozen times.

I think Allen made it a point to talk to Pete and reiterate that he wants him on the staff. While Payton was the mastermind, I’d imagine Pete definitely learned from him. He’s just not the innovator that Sean was. I think DA’s goal is to keep as much intact as he can because clearly what Payton has built is a winning culture. Pete should be an AHC and move back to positional coach though.

I get the feeling that Pete likes to work in the realm of analytics, Xs and Os and statistics but isn't into the rest of being a football coach. It takes a certain personality to constantly be all about that brotherhood, one heart beat, chest bumps for everyone shite but cerebral enough to run an offense or defense in the modern NFL.
Most coaching failures lack in one or the other. That's why it hurts so much to lose CSP. It's easy to find a guy that has one of those traits but not many have both. CSP was one of the best ever at that.

As I look at the saints organization over the years and also how this coaching change has played out I think They already have the OC position filled. Not saying they hired DA before all the other interviews but rather saying I think DA presented his coaching hires during his interview and its has all been put in motion.
The information that Carmichael will be taking another position with the team, tell me that the new OC they are hiring has his own preferred QB coach.
Carmichael is a conundrum of sorts and I think he moves into a non-coaching position. He has value but this is also a loyalty to his tenure.
