Well for one I never said that it's "just a game." I said "I love the Saints, but it's a damn game." And that was in response to other fans taking themselves so seriously that they felt the need to call other people "posers" or "fake fans." It's silly. Just because someone freaks out doesn't mean they're not a fan. It just means they don't know how to stay calm and they have these knee jerk reactions.
Don't worry about MDS. He's a hot headed bitch who doesn't know when to shut his pie hole.

wow this shite is ridiculous
o'rly was just making a point about the hot headed statements made in response to hot headed statements
everyone just needs to chill the frick out...yeah, you MDS
and this whole from the NOLA area shite? I was serving overseas when the punt was blocked...so I guess i'm less of a fan or am incapable of being as emotionally involved as lester earl. speaking of which, Lester, don't you live in harahan? so you don't even live in NOLA, you're less than a fan because i live uptown in Orleans parish. see how stupid that is.
this thread is out of control ridiculous

Don't group us real fans in with your Katrina timeline. Some of us were there way before Katrina(like when Hakim dropped the ball or the dome patrol days, I was their; were you?) so in your view I should think all those people that weren't aren't fans?
Who the F*** made you supersaint? I have lived in N.O. my whole life, went to my first game at 4 years old and have continued going til this day 25 years later(family being season ticket holders the whole time)played in the dome 3 times in high school also, Does that make me more of fan than u?
Hell No! It just means we share love and passion for the same team. I get frustrated also, does that make me a faux fan?
The guy came back and admitted he was wrong, he should be ragged but that novel you typed was uncalled for as was you questioning somebody else's fanhood!

I'm at the dome for home games and not fortunate enough to have a cell provider not named AT&T and I'm usually BBQing or travelling for road games so I haven't seen much of this board during games.
I will say that I totally understand MDS's feelings here. I've felt like unloading on these types of fans in a similar manner plenty of times. But I generally like to stop short of crafting some type of bright-line test for who is and isn't a true fan (i.e., "in the dome for the Gleason game" or "the Dome Patrol era" or "Went to games at Tulane Stadium.") I just ask that, no matter when you became a true Saints fan, conduct yourself like a true Saints fan, and I'm happy to accept you into this wonderful thing of ours.
If you're a phony/bandwagoner/fair-weather type, trust me, we can tell. You'll show yourself soon enough in the form of a stupid comment or a thread like this. And you will deservedly get pwned.
Lester did some great work in this thread too.

The Saints could win 100 games in a row and there would still be people on here making these dumbass threads.

no. people such as these pansies are what make fans of teams look bad, especially when they aren't even fans. they are the the equivelent to that pussy who is with a group of friends that gets in a big fight. the pussy stays in the background while his "friends" get bloodied and tore up, then he jumps in at the last minute to throw a cheap shot punch only to be high fiving everyone afterwards saying "yeah man we kicked their asses". Yes, the scrappers who are bloodied look at him and know that with his clean shirt and gay smile he is nothing more than a pussy. They would kick his arse too if they wouldn't have to explain it to mamma later on.
So no, I will not calm down while pricks like this come on here flaming these boards with their nonsense, and especially when they come back afterwards and try to laugh it all off.
Haha ! I want to be this mad at some online person I dont know, lol, this is really neat

I'm not. Context of my post was that someone who has not lived in NO can not understand the emotions of living here. It has nothing to do with them being any less of a fan.

nope, unless you turn your tv off in the middle of a game and go play hopscotch. frustrations are fine; jumping ship when things aren't going the way you would like is not.

This is an important point and deserves amplification. I'm born and raised in NOLA. The Saints have always been a big part of my life.
Me personally, from 2004 to 2007, I was on military active duty far away from NOLA in August 2005. My family and friends remained in NOLA and went through the entire Katrina catastrophe. I missed the whole thing, except for taking some leave to go home for a bit to help clean up the homestead after Katrina hit.
Point is: those who were in the Katrina strike zone and suffered damage are the ONLY ones who know what it was like to go through that. I could see that when I went home to clean up. Those who went through Katrina were affected psychologically like some people are after being in heavy military combat actions.
So, those Saints fans who experienced Katrina's destruction and the Rise of the Saints after Katrina ARE the only ones who TRULY KNOW what it was like and what it is like to continue to witness the Magnificence of these New Orleans Saints.
These special Saints fans deserve a little bit more respect and deference than othe Saints fans. These special Saints fans really ARE the best Saints fans. In my view, they earned the title by virtue of their blood, sweat and tears.

this has gotten to be a little absurd. now there are 2 sects of fans? do "special, more deserving fans" get priority on seating and special parties after the game?
i am born and raised here and still live here. so i guess i fall under the "special fan" tag, but come on. Really? "special fans" and "normal fans"? This is where we stand now?

For example, where do we draw the line for Katrina's impact before we accept you? Do people who lived in Biloxi count? What about Baton Rouge? What about a family of New Orleans natives who lived in Houston at the time and had 3 families of life-long friends from New Orleans living with them in their house for a month?
I know some Saints "fans" who lived in New Orleans all their lives and never gave a shite about the Saints until the Superbowl run. Do they have some special fanhood designation over a Shreveport resident who has been a diehard Saints fan since the '60s and feels a great connection to the team and sees them as a source of state pride?
Every situation is different. No need to make sweeping generalizations.

I was expressing what I personally felt. Nobody is obligated to share my opinion.
I understand perfectly why somebody would not agree with my opinion.

The sub set of Saints fans to which I refer are those fans who lived through and suffered damage from Hurricane Katrina. These fans could be in NOLA proper or on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, or anywhere else destroyed by Katrina.
Posted on 9/27/11 at 11:53 pm to Champagne
Well, I guess since I live in north Louisiana, I'm not a true Saints fan? Oh, but wait, I helped with rescue efforts during Katrina
. So therefore, I am a true Saints fan!
