The only investment an athlete at that level should make is T bills. Just go with the safe bet. It's not like you'll need the interest or appreciation on other assets.

That said, if the market demands the price, then it might be worth it, and the diamond market doesn’t seem to be suffering.

A good portion, +1/3, but diversification is wise. Mutual funds, real estate, and annuities to go with those bonds is smart.

Bingo. Diamonds come out of the poorest areas on earth, where human labor is at it's cheapest. The cost for finding diamonds there is extremely low and the scarcity of diamonds is heavily-influenced by a monopoly. Diamonds are a terrible purchase as an investment.
