Through my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, and leaders in the black community, I realize this is not an issue about the American flag. It has never been. We can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities.
We did this back in 2017, and regretfully I brought it back with my comments this week. We must stop talking about the flag and shift our attention to the real issues of systemic racial injustice, economic oppression, police brutality, and judicial & prison reform.
We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history! If not now, then when?

He's just covering his arse. He has an opinion and that's his right too. Just like Kaepernick has his. Some people agree with both and others disagree with both. It's time for people to stop with the cancel culture just because they dont agree with people. That goes for people disagreeing with Brees and Kaepernick.

as per the other post, unfollowed Brees (and the Saints) on all social media platforms, but can't help but to watch this train continue to go off the rails. Brees is melting down and you hate to see it. someone clearly threatened his future financial gigs. that's the only thing that can explain this type of cowardice.

I can’t believe people give a shite what a guy thinks because he plays football, I mean it’s absoloutely comical to me.
Drew can come out and sing the national anthem or he can join the protestors in the quarter. Just show up week 1 that’s all I want to see.

Not if you actually read and listen to everything he’s said. Not once has he actually backed away from his stance that players should stand and respect the flag.
