I really don't know how they got away with this bullshite to begin with.. Think about it.. They didn't purposely hurt anyone. I'm sorry they didn't. They played grown man football that was professionally officiated on the field and reviewed after every game. None of those players even had any abnormal fines.
It was utter bullshite to try and limit their career in the manner Goodell was trying to. Teddy Bruski just admitted he did pay for performance schemes. People should STFU.

Once again, the reason why this is happening is because the players have power.
None of this effects the penalties imposed on the team or the coaches in anyway. Public outrage would have to be just deafening, and it won't be, because the only people that care about this are Saints fans.

They can do whatever they want, but it won't matter.
The players have legal mechanisms to challenge it.
The coaches and team essentially don't (beyond pretty specious arguments that they would almost certainly lose in the long run).
We will not get the coaches back. We will not get the money or the picks back.
