Blake Grupe went 40 for 40 on PATs this past season. Only 2 other kickers were Perfect.

Eventually, there will be a time that the Saints Hall of Fame has inducted the entire 53 Man Roster (minus Darren Sharper) from the 2009 team and will need some more notable candidates.

I would like to note how impressive it was this past season that Blake Grupe was one of only three NFL Kickers that made all his PAT attempts (with a minimum of 30 tries).

A few more footnotes like that and I could see him in the a Saints Hall of Fame Class between 2043-2047.

Yet if just makes the game winner against packers, we would be in playoffs. Rather he misses some xps and the team got in.

81.1% is near bottom of the league. I hope he improves going forward.

Damn Butker is perfect from 40-60 on 12 of 12 kicks

I agree with the sentiment that he should have made it, but the reality is the defense gave up 18 points on the 3 drives before that FG attempt. Had he made it, they would have had over 1 minute and 2 TOs for Carlson to get his game winner w time expiring.

Grupe will be a good kicker. Most if not all rookies have bumps in the road. Hell Morten Anderson was a career sub 80% FG kicker. (79.7%) and (77.6% for his 13 years in NOLA)

11 of his 25 year he averaged 78% or below kicking.

Took him 2 full season to crack the 80% mark.

He turned out to be a pretty good kicker.

The key is to not have to rely on you kicker to win as many games for you.

ETA: fwiw Grupe finished this rookie season at 81.1% FG percentage. Not great but 80% is everyone's threshold for field goal kickers it seems from earlier in the year.

ESPN Shows 9 kickers at 100% (8 w/ 30+ attempts)

Gano - 8 attempts
McManus - 35 attempts
Myers - 33 attempts
Carlson - 32 attempts
Butker - 38 attempts
McLaughlin - 33 attempts
Grupe - 40 attempts
McPherson - 40 attempts
Dicker - 35 attempts

He had some bad misses. I was always nervous every time he had to make a clutch kick. I still don’t trust him, but is a good kicker though. He will improve.

There were still 45 seconds left in that game and we would have been up by less than a fg after the defense got torched on 3 straight drives.

Would’ve been nice if he made it, but we were going to lose anyway.

Lutz helped the Saints lose 5 games in his rookie season.

Grupe had a very nice rookie season.

He only missed 1 truly annoying kick (29 yd fg against the falcons). I think the laces placement were potentially fricked on that kick as well.

That was the aussie who messed up the hold. Still should’ve gone in

Would’ve fooled me that we scored that many TDs. Finished in the top 10 pts/game and top half yds/game.

We couldn’t buy a RZ TD for a large chunk of the season

ETA: same case for defense. Top 10 pts/game and top half yds against/game. Squandered too many close games. Only Dallas and SF had a better point differential in nfc

Agreed, and the poise the young kid showed was very promising. They say you have to have a short memory to be successful as a place kicker in the NFL, well the kid has it for sure.

Grupe was 88% if you take out his misses from 51, 52 and 54. And he showed great leg on those kicks

He didn’t lose ya any games despite the narrative some want to push. He was your only offense at some points

Ok stating this is so misleading. So we should just ignore he missed three kicks from 50 yards- which NFL kickers are expected to make. I agree he was our offense at times but he didn’t make one clutch game winning kick this year either. Grupe was average at best and honestly it would be smart if the team brought in competition for him this offseason.

I actually like grupe as a kicker and think he is fine.

When he connects on a kick it usually splits the uprights.

He hasn’t shown an ability to make clutch kicks and honestly under any other football staff he would have been cut earlier. Yeah he was perfect in xps but he also missed 2 kicks within 20 yards- for a NFL kicker that’s inexcusable. Again, I think hes average at best but not someone I would invest in.
