and Hill is an imposing redzone target

71 career games, 32 starts, 10 total TDs (5 of which came back in 2014).

Averages about 15 catches for 140 yards per year over the last 4 years, and he has been right about at that average each year so he isn't improving.

He just isn't the receiving threat we thought he'd turn into after 2014. If anything he maybe regressed.

I'll give you that, and along with his special teams play may be the reason we choose him over Hooman, but both are a bit too similar with no signs of them improving their receiving skills.

It basically signals we are running, or if passing you can put your worst cover LB/S on them. We really don't need both, and if we draft a good blocking TE we really don't need either.

We have signed a butt load of veterans. We've got a lot of young talent, first couple years kind of guys.

What these vets will lack in getting nicked or not being on the field every play, they will make up for in experience, the locker room, helping the young 'uns grow, etc.

I'm very OK with the direction we're taking.

You really think Hill is going to get better than what he already is?

I feel like you're really struggling with reading comprehension. You said 2 years ago. At that time Hill was 25 and Watson was 35. Hill HAS improved over the past 2 years. And for the third time. I haven't ever said Hill was a better TE than Watson. Just that he has a specific role where he does things Watson doesn't at this stage in his career. Why is this hard to understand?

I actually thought Hill was a better blocker than Hooman last year.

I dont see what his religion has to do with him being a great man. Cant you just say hes a great man? If he happened to be Buddhist would you have felt compelled to state, "Great Buddhist man. Need more like him in the locker room."

If he was a good man and Buddhist, sure. You’re grasping at straws for an unnecessary argument. Take those half glass empty glasses off, man.

Hill HAS improved over the past 2 years.

As a blocker and that's literally it. He brings jack squat to the passing game. Last 3 years his TD totals are 2, 1, and 1 and that's with about 20 or so starts in there. He finished with the highest TE snap count last year and put up 1 TD and not much else in the passing game.

You can find a really good blocking TE for vet minimum. No reason to really keep Hill when we can save $2 mil cutting him.

You mean Hooman is that guy? He saves $1.6 mil. I wouldn't be surprised or upset if both were cut, or at least took paycuts.

For the passing game production we are "vastly" overpaying both and we could really trim up and get some new blood through the draft and maybe even a more promising blocker cheaper in FA.

It was missing a 2nd part.

I meant Hooman is not a "vet min", but he's clearly a better blocker and just as bad on the offensive end. yet he costs close to 1mil less in cap hit.

Wouldn't surprise me like you said if Hill and Hooman are cut in favor of Watson and a drafted TE.

Nah they won't cut both.
Payton values the blocking .
Hooman has decent hands when he does get a chance.
I almost agree with hill getting cut before hoo but I think it won't happen just yet if at all

I don't think signing a 37yo to a 1 year deal has any impact on how we are going to draft. This is simply another option, I think we were going to bring in another TE at some point in FA regardless of how we looked at the current prospects at TE. I expect this deal is near the vet minimum, he played fine last season but the dude is old.

Who we keep and who we cut will not be determined until later. I think we didn't cut Fleener before the New league year because he wouldn't have passed a physical, which would have triggered an injury guarantee, and had even more detrimental salary cap implications.

If we draft a TE or not, we certainly will not keep all 4 TEs on our roster. Hill or Hooman I think will be one roster spot, TBD in camp. Then who knows, but I wouldn't be surprised if Fleener and Watson aren't on the roster week 1.
