They admitted it was a backwards pass; thus incomplete. Well rules also state a backwards pass is called a lateral, a live ball. a fumble. Done with this shite.

If a QB is hit during a pass, the ball is considered a forward pass no matter where it goes

This isn't a new rule

Rule is interpreted differently from game to game, crew to crew. No consistency in on the field rulings and reviews.

The fumble rule? Perhaps

The "backwards pass after a hit" rule? No

Sort of like the definition of a catch seems to change.

That's what the central command in NY was supposed to help with. That way they talk thru it and arrive at the same conclusion. But it's the entertainment league. Remember that first. So they will never interpret the rule the same. Especially against st the Saints.

It's the interpretation of "begins throwing motion" that's the issue. I think most believed it was when the arm is moving forward. But apparently it's when the qb lifts his arm? bullshite. If the hit comes when his arm is only half raised they rule it a fumble. But because it was fully raised, incomplete pass. Too much room for interpretation. Needs to be moving forward as we all fricking believed it to be.

The problem here is that he successfully completed the pass attempt while getting hit….

His arm angle threw the ball backwards. It wasn’t like the ball uncontrollably flew backwards after he was hit. It was a clear spiral that left his hand after the hit, and his arm angle was throwing the pass backwards.

I believe it's the same Brady "tuck" rule that everyone was upset with when it was used in the NE vs. Raiders playoff game.

Yeah I think it was a fumble.

But my earlier comment was about applying the rule to a pass (ie, not a fumble)

that's the end of the story.

But one thing I want clarified is the frame of reference of "hand moving forward"...in what dimension or frame of perspective is "forward' defined.

he was moving toward the sidelines and all the movement was horizontal toward the sidelines (and the ball was lost toward/behind the sidelines after the hit)...so within this perspective is forward toward the sidelines or toward the LOS

His hand was definitely moving forward….just in the opposite direction. The “intent to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage” thing is fine….but we fricked his shite up and turned his arm angle around…..

He then completed a perfect spiral backwards…it wasn’t an out of control pass attempt, he threw the ball backwards. His arm still went forwards, just in the opposite direction….which in any case is a lateral.

The NFL rule book defines the " Core Requirement for a forward pass " :
"A pass is a forward pass if the ball moves closer to the opponents goal line after leaving the passer's hand".

The ball went backwards after leaving the passer's hand. Once again the referees screwed the Saints.

His hand was moving up. Chase Young slammed his arm down on Goff's arm which forced Goff's arm forward UNintnentionally. Goff had a strong enough grip on the ball that he didn't lose complete control until it was moving forward at a rapid pace not by his choosing.

Not for OP, who is discussing the "it was a pass" scenario and trying to claim even then it should be a fumble.

That is incorrect.
