Would Austin Hooper be an upgrade to Trautman? He seems to have had some good seasons in the past and may be a good, cheap option at TE.

Yeah he would be a good get. Not sure how cheap he would be given the TE market this year.

He would be an upgrade to Trautman
He is not affordable. 2x pro bowler. He will get solid money imo (at least 10-12m AAV). Maybe if we didn't do that awful Maye contract
Possible if we miss on Watson we could do it

Ehhh, he had 2 years and 22.5mil left on his contract.
His last 2 years without a guy like Julio taking away coverage and Ryan getting him the ball, he's definitely shown to be more average.

That’s fine, I disagree personally. For how close we are to the cap (yes I know we can make more space), the team has to be far more selective about how we spend every dollar. To spend 9.5 AAV on a mediocre safety when the defense already has most of the teams good players and depth is a big mistake. The team needs offensive tools desperately.

Big upgrade to Trautman if we can afford him. I feel like I’d hear his name called a time or two anytime I watched the Browns. Trautman...not so much unless it was for something negative.
I’d love to see us get a true WR2 and decent TE to open the offense more.

How many threads are you going to complain about this in? Marcus Williams was one of the key reasons the defense was so good. You can't just throw anybody back there and expect similar results. The Saints needed to replace him and got the BPA on a decent contract.

His contract was bad, he was definitely overpaid. They thought he was going to be the next big thing but he wasn't. He also went from Matt Ryan to Baker Mayfield, the same Baker Mayfield and offense that failed to get OBJ involved and tried to convince us he was washed up until he went to the Rams and looked more like his old self.
Maybe Trautman is a better blocker, but that's it for this stage of his career. Hooper would definitely be an upgrade, and very welcomed depending on price.

Ya see, the first thing thing a fan who is thirsty for a productive TE would do is turn to Hooper’s last years in ATL and convince themself he is good
But when you’re playing on 7-9 teams who throw the ball 600+ times a season, it may take a bit of effort to sift through the numbers and decipher if
this guy is actually good or not.
For me personally, Iook at bad Falcons teams threw a shite ton and Hooper was the beneficiary of 88 & 97 targets, while teams chased around the likes of Julio/Ridley/Sanu/Gage etc. Yes technically Hooper “got open and caught the ball”. But then you realize CLE signed him to big money off of that, thinking he could create and get open on his own. And the lie detector test determined that was a lie, and he is nothing more than a big body who can sit down in a soft zone and catch the ball while really good WR create a slot of space and divert attention off of him
We also realize Trout mouth is heading into his third year at a position with a big learning curve. A rookie year behind Jared Cook, then a 2nd year with the 4 headed shite QB monster throwing passes. He has flashed enough to show he can get himself open and even displayed some YAC ability. I am of the opinion his best ball is in front of him and Austin Hooper is not the cure all at the TE position. I’d rather let Trautman develop and if we were to bring in a TE, make it a good one

We could go back on forth on the rest of your post, but this here I do agree with. Trautman' best ball is in front of him I also believe, he also did improve some as the year went on, but there is also nothing shown yet to think he's going to take some massive leap and be a 60+ reception guy unless it's the same exact scenario you are painting with Hooper. I'd love to see him show up with 60rec/750yrd/6TD but I just am not ready to bet on that. Trautman really hasn't shown much yet in the realm of going up and high-pointing a ball or out muscling defenders, or making the crazy athletic wow plays.
I also would have my sights set higher than Hooper for an upgrade, but cap restraints brings it down to Hooper. Especially if it's a 2-3 year deal to buy us time until maybe Trautman could make that leap and be the guy we want him to be
