Bottom line is New Orleans did more for Archie then he ever did for New Orleans.
Archie came to the Saints when the front office was run by a bunch of morons. The guy never had a team around him. Granted he did lose many games, but a lot of that has to be put on management. They never put a team around him. Much less a coach.

Archie has been #2 for a while now.

Archie....still dividing the saints fanbase like Moses parting the red sea. Bobby Hebert is much less divisive. The only ones that hate him are frumpy blue bloods.
How is Archie dividing the fan base??? Lol@Bobby Hebert, he really cares about the SAINTS huh, are you sure it's not all about money with him?? I mean the guy comes on the radio drunk. Yeah good way to rep the SAINTS.

I wish some people would post rosters from players back then when Archie played to the players today on the SAINTS and then compare Archie to Brees.
And to be honest when people outside of New Orleans think of the SAINTS ARCHIE MANNING is one of the first names to come to mind! LOL@ no longer face of organization, #2 crap, blah blah blah. Why are people even comparing past players to present players. Different era's. Today's NFL is more geared towards offense and help out the offense. Anybody with a brain knows that. That's why so many records are being broken. NFL in the 70's-80's let defense actually PLAY football. When Archie played wr's and qb's didn't get help from refs or the NFL. And also add in the fact that wr's today are waaaaay more talented then when he played.

Only a bandwagon fan would say one of your legends is THE ENEMY. Seriously. Especially a guy that LOVES New Orleans and never ran like some people that left the city because of CRIME, dirty politics, etc.
I hope SAINTS fans don't go into MIAMI talkin crap like ARCHIE sucks, is the enemy, now #2 because you'll end up looking very stupid to a lot of people in the NFL. You NEVER throw one of your legends under the bus!!!

Like I stated before, Brees is bigger then football in New Orleans.
Yeah and Brees have a GOOD supporting cast too. How well do you think Brees would do if he was on the Browns, Lions, Rams, Chiefs, BUCS??? Put Brees on those teams and put Archie on the 70's Cowboys, Vikings, and Steelers and I bet you'd talk different about both guys.

All right I have to post this...this "they didn't even give LSU a look" is absolutely and positively incorrect.
Some time ago I attended a breakfast at which then head baseball coach Skip Bertman was the guest speaker. He was asked about the whole Peyton Manning / Josh Booty thing. He stated that, then head football coach, Curley Hallman approached Coach Bertman to ask for his assistance in recruiting Josh Booty. Skip stated at the breakfast that he told Hallman that if the football team needed a QB he had better look elsewhere as Josh Booty would most likely be a high pick in the upcoming MLB draft. Hallman ignored this advise and proceeded to heavily recruit Booty.
Skip stated that LSU had contact with Peyton and that Archie wanted him to attend LSU for a number of reasons not the least of which it was close to home for football saturday nights. However, Skip said that Archie asked Hallman if he was recruiting Josh Booty to which Skip said Hallman told Archie that Booty was his first choice. That's when Peyton ended up signing with Tennessee.
You all know the "rest of the story". It played out just like Skip said it would...Booty was drafted and signed a MLB contract. Hallman and LSU could have had Peyton.
You can accept this or not, but I was personally in attendance at that particular breakfast meeting and heard this story directly from Skip.

Wasn't Hallman basically out the door during the Booty/Manning recruitment?
I know it was his last year, and his firing was all but a forgone conclusion by then. I always assumed that was a big reason we essentially got neither player. I also always heard Archie would have never let Peyon play for Hallman.

That what's annoys me the most. People HATE/dislike that family because they didn't attend LSU. Big deal. They do what's best for them. You don't HATE/dislike people because they don't attend your favorite school for FOOTBALL.lol. Hell everything seemed to work out good for LSU in the long run.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, one of his sons plays for the COLTS, another for the GIANTS. Pretty busy man if he's always at his sons games. Get your weak shite outta hear and stop hatin on the man.lol.

I agree. Hell, I'm still angry that neither kid attended Jesuit. Maybe the Mannings despise Catholics? Who knows?

I have scanned the first few pages of this thread and it is completely full of stupid. How in the frick can you blame Archie for his kids not going to a Louisiana school? Its their damn choice. I don't where it says a private citizen is obligated to send his kids to a certain school. I will never understand the hatred some of you ppl have for Archie, the man has done nothing but good things for city and state. Now I will give ya"ll that Drew Brees is the greatest QB in Saints history hands down no contest. But IMO Archie Manning will always be Mr. Saint, he may not hold the records but always hold the hearts of Saints fans for being class guy he is, and being our hope on many of a hopeless teams.

I didn't like Archie when he played for 'Ole Miss, I grudgingly liked him when he played for the Saints, and I couldn't stand him when he and his boys dissed LSU.
I have no problem with him supporting his son in rooting for the Colts, as most parents would. Why anyone would get upset about this is beyond me, since he's never been and never will be a Louisiana boy. Frankly, I don't care what he thinks.

Give it up. Not liking somone because they did not go play football for LSU under Curley Hallman is laughable. I'm a lifelong LSU fan. If my son had Peyton's talent, he would not have played under Hallman.
It is the responsibility of the LSU administration to ensure no Hallmans happen. The administration at that time failed all LSU fans. Be angry at the correct people.
Add in the fact that Archie and Olivia were AA QB and cheer-leading socialite at Ole Miss and you have to be a little dense to expect them to go to LSU under those cicumstances.

Sir, your evidence for Peyton was the proof I was looking for. That being said the post of Archie's contributions were very generic. I respect the family, their talents and at no time did I say they should have swayed their kids to go to an in state school. Bottom line is that Brees has done more in four years then any other new Orleans athlete. Like I stated before, Brees is bigger then football in New Orleans. Any one who disputes this is in denial.
Yet you still have no idea what Archie has done in the community simply bc he chooses not to publicize it.
The Manning Passing Academy is an example of giving back to the community in a big way, considering you have two athletes who have $100M contracts who work with kids closely for an entire week, and actually show up and care about it.

Can we forget about Archie Manning and who he pulls for. It is irrelavant for one. On top of that he should pull for his son. Any dad would do so.
Just shut the hell up already.

Nothing against Archie. But he can stick Peyton and Eli right up his arse. But that's just me.
