Rattler is a valuable asset to have as a backup option. If he were to fill in for one or two games, he would give us a decent shot. If Shough went down for a substantial amount of time, we’d be screwed anyways. He’s probably worth at least a 5th or 6th but why would you get rid of him and then have to take another shot on a backup in the draft like Haener or Garrett Grayson?

Exactly. How is this not completely obvious? He’s worth WAY more as our cheap #2 than anything we could in return.

isn’t he like 1-13 as a starter. No he would not give us a “ decent “ shot. He’s terrible we definitely need to move from him this offseason and see if we a good backup quarterback

I know, right? I was nervous AF that he was going to do something stupid with 6 seconds left.

Probably because yall, like the announcers, didnt understand what he was out there to do. The same thing shough wouldve been out there to do on that play

I dont get the hate for the kid. He is a cheap backup who had almost no weapons to work with last season.

When you are 1-14 as a starting QB you are not good. Stop with the excuses. Shough is working with the same, if not less, than rattler this year and is proven that a leader and good QB can elevate a team. Rattler can kick rocks

Irrelevant for what we’re talking about. I’m not sure any QB has ever had a worst supporting cast for their 1st 14 starts. And he was a rookie for most of those with Dennis Allen as his HC. We’re talking about his value as 3rd and 4th year player with 2 and 3 years of development under Kellen Moore with what, by default, would have to be a much better supporting cast on offense.

No he would not give us a “ decent “ shot.

Not to play 10+ games and win us a Super Bowl, but to go 1-1 or 2-2 or even 1-2 or something. To tread water. And not go 0-4 or something disastrous.

He’s terrible

He’s played terrible in spots for sure. He’s played decent in spots as well, relatively speaking. Again, you are thinking of him as a rookie or early 2nd year player with no weapons and the worst OL in the NFL. We are talking about him as a 3rd and 4th year player with a better OL and better weapons.

we definitely need to move from him this offseason

Completely disagree. It would be forfeiting one of our biggest assets—paying our top 2 QBs about a 10th of what most teams are paying their starters.

and see if we a good backup quarterback

Who? How much you willing to pay them? And to what end? So we may finish 7-10 or 8-9 and still miss the playoffs, have a worst draft a lot for the ‘27 draft, and at the expense of signing someone who could actually contribute—if not start—at a position of need for the next 3-4 years? If Shough gets hurt, we’re fricked anyway.

Rattler is going to be a jepordy question one day about the worst winning percentage with a QB with over 20 starts in the NFL. He is the walking definition of some guy in the NFL

Everything you said is true, and this is a non issue. Fans can debate it but the team understands that Rattler’s contract is beneficial for the team. I don’t think he’ll ever be one of the best 32 QBs in the world but he should keep developing while competing against Shough. We are in a great spot with our QBs being so inexpensive.

RGIII literally called exactly what he was going to do...

But yes the hate for Rattler is overdone, but so is the love some try to pour on him. He is middling at best but can at least play better than someone like Grayson or Haener. I'd prefer to grab a vet if we have the chance to get one on the cheaper end, but Rattler is at least semi competent.

get an early day 3 pick for Rattler.

there is not a universe out there where ANY team gives up an early day 3 pick for Spencer Rattler... personally, i don't think he has any trade value whatsoever, to any NFL team, seeing as he is the backup to the absolute worst QB room in the NFL

What does this even mean? Shough is playing well.

Rattler is everything you want in a backup.

He's just not a starter.

Scary moment when he came in with 7 seconds left on clock. Glad he didn’t fall down or get sacked to derail the winning FG attempt.

Correct. The combo of Shough and Rattler taking control of the QB room for 3-4 years and nearly completely eliminating the qb need on the roster is a dream scenario. It didn't even overly matter if it was Rattler/Shough or Shough/Rattler. Even at pick 40, its still worth it for a capable starter in a backup role in the league.

And I believe they like Dekkers a good bit. That's a nice little side project.

I’m rooting for Rattler to succeed mainly because of pathetic people like you and this post.

Why? He’s the perfect backup QB on a cheap deal. With as good as Shough has been, there isn’t anybody that will be calling for him to get benched in favor of Rattler.
