“Andy Dalton's contract won't match with Terron Armstead's for comp pick purposes, so if they lose another compensatory free agent the 3rd/4th rounder could come back.
But who could that CFA be? PJ Williams? Ken Crawley? Kwon Alexander? Kenny Stills? NO's running out of options.“

That all but seals it. They are not drafting a QB this year.
Good I wasn't sold on any of the QB prospects. Hopefully they get tackle and wr fixed in the draft.

I like this move. Top 3 backup in the NFL. Team won’t end up in a position like last year again.

I thought Blake Bortles was on the roster.
That’s probably a very short term thing now.

But if Winston was to get hurt I’d rather just tank at that point.
Andy Dalton is the perfect QB to drive a tank.

Andy Dalton to Saints. 1 year deal.
Tough competitor. I like it.

One thing is that Winston now has someone who knows more about the QB position than anyone else in the QB room.
Can't hurt to have that old vet helping on game day and with prep.

Why on ever loving earth does Dalton affect drafting a QB of the future?
Its not about Dalton. Its about now having a complete QB room. Winston (starter), Dalton (vet backup), Book (untested QB3). Ideally, a top QB pick would be your QB2, not your QB3. Dalton is a pure QB2. Sure, if one of the top two QBs fall to 18, they'll get him, but there is no need to trade up now.

remember Ian Book starting a MNF game that low-key damaged our playoff chances significantly
Which of our other QBs would have won that game. Tell me so I can have a good laugh.

This is a perfect backup QB signing.
Yes.
And he’s a much better QB than people give him credit for

Yes he is. I'm looking forward to the pre-season

Boy we got some dumbass people on this board. Goodness gracious. I don’t post here much but I’ve heard the stories but damn.
ETA : it’s really just a few posters that say stuff that’s so stupid that it makes the board look bad
Why would anyone have a problem with signing dalton. It doesn’t mean anything regarding Winston. Also, you wouldn’t be drafting a quarterback to bet he backup anyway , you would still take a guy if you like him to develop as a future starter. A drafted qb in the mid rounds ends up a qb1 or qb3 pretty much.if you find a guy you like then you put book on practice squad and cut Trevor .
Got people acting like dalton will start or something

Don't necessarily hate the move and will add decent backup. It could have been worse.
Posted on 3/29/22 at 2:47 pm to WhoDatNC
He’s probably the best backup you could get

Mariota was the best backup last year.
Don’t think for a second that the saints are married to the idea of developing Ian book or keeping Trevor . Draft a qb to develop in round 2 is possible and then you’ve got a starter a backup and then an upgrade on potential with the pick over books potential

You could do a lot worse for a backup QB.
We tried that already.

I like this and can see him possibly the #1
Given where he once played I feel his best days are ahead
