You’d have to be a real Piece of shite if a team paid you for three years, you played less than 1/3 of those games and demanded a trade.

I don’t think Zion is.

Ok. Its really not a big deal, it was just a nothing statement that accomplished little.

If there's no update, people say our sneaky GM is hiding stuff. We get an update, and our worthless GM is giving unnecessary updates that add fuel to the fire.

Like, how is Griff supposed to handle this? None of this stuff is in his hands anymore, anyway. It's all in the hands of the doctors and trainers.

"The Pelicans’ statement said Williamson will be “remaining under the supervision of the Pelicans medical staff.” Williamson and the Pelicans medical staff collaborated on a rehabilitation plan, and the two sides will communicate frequently while he’s there. But no Pelicans medical staff member accompanied Williamson on the trip, sources said."

This stuck out to me, but still kinda seems like a non story

This was my immediate take. No one even knew where he was before. Our wizards got together and thought it was a good idea to say “Zion needs to be away from the team.” THAT’s the message they agreed on? Lol

He's gonna end up at Electric Daisy Carnival with DeMarcus Cousins....

Ok. So. Now they know he's off rehabbing. So much fuel for the internets

If you can't see how someone like Kendrick Perkins is going to use this as evidence that he wants put of New Orleans, you are somewhere between naive and obtuse. I'll be here to hit you with an atoadaso when it happens.

How is he supposed to handle it? Just don’t say:

“he will rehab away from the team at this time so he can focus on the task at hand.”

This isn’t rocket science or some mathematical equation. It’s been half a year since his surgery and they haven’t had to say that. Just say he’s rehabbing and trying to get back ASAP. Or any number of the thousands of things said the thousands of times this exact situation has happened in sports. Don’t say Zion is rehabbing away from the team. That is beyond dumb to release as a statement. There was no need.

Kendrick Perkins said last week Lebron should force a trade back to Cleveland. If him saying something stupid means anything to you that sucks for you.

Yeah, I can't imagine a worse communications strategy than, "Let's focus on trying to get Kendrick Perkins to stop saying bad things about us."

If you are expecting a return this season you are just torturing yourself .

Any update that comes that says something other than Zion has undergone a second surgery is a surprise . Personally , I wish they would just do that so he’d have time to heal and then condition through the summer prior to next season .

I’ve said since the news of the injury that the return to start the season was never in the cards given the nature of that injury , style of play , and Zions size. The longer it lingered the more it became apparent that it’s a true Jones fracture which takes forever to heal for a normal human being much less a pro basketball player

Perkins was just the example I used. He won't be the only one. It's certainly not the end of the world, but this release is shitty PR work yet again.

Barstool already has an article up on how weird the statement was and how broken the situation here is. Multiple other national sites too.

Say nothing until you have something to say. Or say, he’s continuing his rehab. The end.

An actual update.

This gives us nothing.

I'm still trying to figure out the point of putting this out there.

Zion's camp would certainly know the spin that would be put on this, and they still went ahead and put it out there with Zion's first public quotes in 5 months.

I can't see any other reason to put it out other than to pubically have the situation get even worse. What am I missing?

I don’t have the slightest clue.

It’s bizarre.

Honestly what was the point of this update?

To let everyone know that we are early in this process and to not expect any real information for a while.

He's exactly where he was from a rehab standpoint back in mid December. Too soon for any progress at all.

cant sell tickets like that though.

i have usually expected a triumphant return.
at this point the team is 2.5 out of playin.
its actually pleasantly surprising considering ingram is out so long and jv was out a while.

This is by far the strangest injury saga that I can remember. I’m just going to act like Zion is out for the year until he’s actually on the court.
