Zion Update

“Since we notified everyone on December 16 of his latest imaging, it was decided then by our medical team to dial his rehab back to only partial weight bearing activities. He continues along that path,” stated Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin. “We also agreed that in order to put Zion in the best position to succeed, he will rehab away from the team at this time so he can focus on the task at hand.”
“As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult process for me,” said Williamson. “I know there’s work to be done in my recovery before I can safely return to the court, but I will continue to put in the time necessary so I can get back on the floor with my team and represent Pelicans fans and the city of New Orleans at the highest level. Basketball means everything to me, and I am thankful for the Pelicans organization and everyone who has surrounded me with love and support throughout this journey – my family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans, and everybody who has stood behind me and uplifted me when I needed it most.”
So they basically said nothing, and had Zion release a statement, the only one he has given to my knowledge since media day.
He's rehabbing away from the team. No other information.

the goal should be to get him ready for training camp in October. pels obviously will pick up his 2022-23 team option, and will have until that December (i think, correct me) to craft an acceptable extension

On a serious note, Woj update says he's in Portland, OR.
Which is interesting since he was supposedly last in LA working with Richard Ferkel, who is based out of LA from what I understood.
Wonder why Portland(this is not a conspiracy post, just genuinely curious, as he has no ties there, new doctor again?)

Keep control of narratives probably.
Seems like little progress has been made since the setback, otherwise they would lead with that, as they have every time with Zion up to this point, so instead of pundit speculation and doom spreading from outside forces, come out with a PR written statement for Zion and tell the world he's working hard. Let your updates be the basis for Zion talk, not pundit speculation....would be my guesss

They may need to think about trading Zion to get some pieces to put around Herb so he doesn't want to leave in 4 years.

Okay so I reread the statement and there looks to be a tiny update.

Meaning he's still in the exact same spot he was 4 weeks ago. Zero progress has been made. Zions STILL not doing any sort of basketball activities. There's absolutely no way he plays this year.

Have you not been following this whole process, Zion will not start basketball activities until the scans show the bone is healed. He will probably get new scans in mid to late January.

Zion will be ready for the start of the regular season (October 2022).
