Just saw it on the app. Thanks. Surprised that it hasn’t gotten more notice because that’s a pretty big (and optimistic) update

It's part of the protocol for people that leave the bubble. Certainly hearing that he wasn't getting tested would be bad, but hearing that he is getting tested is expected. They have never said they don't expect him to return, they just can't or won't set a date because they've already gotten burned before with Zion's injury whether they put out a timeline or not. Giving us information before it's set in stone is just a losing proposition for the team.

From the team:

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, who departed the NBA campus in Orlando last week to attend to an urgent family matter, has been getting tested daily for COVID-19 while away from the team and continues to produce negative results. While there is no current timetable for his return to campus, he fully intends to rejoin the team. Per NBA protocol, his quarantine period will be determined upon his return. Further updates will be provided accordingly.

That could be the difference between a 4-day quarantine and a 10 or 14-day quarantine upon his return to ORL.

So no new information besides he’s been getting tested. I guess it’s something.

So the 4 day period that everyone keeps mentioning isn't definite based on this statement.

Because he could miss a day of testing in the future, or test positive a day or when he arrives.

It's also possible they won't even make him quarantine for 4 days. They let the Morris brothers in immediately I believe, so it is possible if Zion is negative until he gets back that they will let him join in team activities.

There is a ton of info in that, and apart from explicitly saying when he will be playing i got all i was wondering out of that.

1)fully plans on rejoining the team (this is very different than "we will see how it progresses"
2)It seems like they are going to let him spend as much time away from the team as possible without missing games. Thats how i read it.

The Pelcians' Snapchat posted the same update. It says he's been getting tested daily but still has no news on a return date. But he does plan to return

If #2 is the case then I would expect him back by Friday or Saturday...between that games start next Thursday.

it really doesn't matter when he comes back, honestly. we are going to have the 2 game playoff against memphis, likely regardless (unless Memphis absolutely tanks). as long as he's back by game 6 so he can get some minutes, it's fine.

We still have to go +1 vs portland. Their schedule is hard as shite, but they are fully healthy now.

I’m assuming we have the talent to take care of this schedule without him. I’d hope at least.

This is his job. It’s one thing to leave for a funeral but 6 days gone and no explanation is unacceptable imo

I’m sure he has given his employer a valid explanation. They said that they support his decision and will respect his privacy.

So the 2 days is standard for guys who are arriving to the bubble for the first time.

The 4 days is for guys who left the bubble on an excused absence

The 10 days is for an unexcused absence, or, I think if the player on an excused absence misses a test.

I think the quarantine may be longer if a player were to test positive.
