Just got done listening to it, and I'm glad JJ finally came back after 5 months. Very good podcast and I can't believe Zion is this humble. Hopefully he stays healthy and we'll have some great years ahead of us. E'twaun getting major props as well was nice to hear.

Big takeaway from the pre Zion part was Griffin is really hammering home to the team they’re still in the playoff hunt which means the team is definitely not tanking. They’re going for a playoff push.

Listening to that now

He's prefacing it by saying "people in New Orleans are gonna hate me".

He said he's had specific things that are the best he's ever had (shout out to Turkey & The Wolf), but as far as full sit down meals app/entree/dessert it's been lacking. And honestly as a New Orleans native, he's not terribly wrong. He's also coming from NY which has a world class culinary scene, and travels the world for his job getting to eat the best it has to offer.

Interesting that Zion was truly thinking of returning to Duke.

The Chick-Fil-A story was kind of funny

The fried bologna sandwich from turkey and the Wolf has no business being as good as it is

The JJ portion was more entertaining that the Zion part. It’s a really good podcast in general. I like listening to JJ.

Before speculation runs wild, and I've already seen a few of these takes, the deadline to declare is a month before the lottery, so he had no idea who would be picking 1st

I am from LA. I have lived in NY. I have traveled to many other countries. All i miss about LA is the food and football. NY may have fancy food but it lacks flavor. We occasionally had meals to impress but often times were left wondering what the buzz was about. I will take most LA restaurants over any state or country that I have been to.
If JJ thinks NO food underperforms, he either doesnt like seafood, has a real sensitive palate, or he just sucks ordering.

I mostly agree with you. JJ is known as a harsh food critic in general. Personally I think NOLA's strength lies in it's unknown/hole in the wall restaurants. You can walk into almost any mom & pop place and have a flavorful, incredible meal.

But that's a conversation for the F&D board.

Soggy, yes I forgot to include that in my post...it had zero to do with where he would possibly go...just genuinely loved Duke...I think he's a guy that'll go back and get his degree

It's all about the sweet potato sandwich at turkey and the wolf.

Right. We simply cannot compete with the highest of the high from places like New York or Barcelona or Paris or Tokyo. We can't compete with the variety in New York.

But I do think, for a city our size, we do well in the more casual places, and we have a completely uniquely american culinary cuisine which most places cannot claim.

Question to the late Anthony Bourdain:
quote:

If you were picking any two cities – one in the U.S. and one overseas – that you would tell someone they absolutely had to eat, what would they be?

Answer:

quote:

In America, there might be better gastronomic destinations than New Orleans, but there is no place more uniquely wonderful. So I would say New Orleans. With the best restaurants in New York, you’ll find something similar to it in Paris or Copenhagen or Chicago. But there is no place like New Orleans. So it’s a must see city because there’s no explaining it, no describing it. You can’t compare it to anything. So, far and away New Orleans.

It doesn't make any sense how good it is. Made for an amazing hangover cure too.

New Orleans can’t be beat. And the seafood on the coast can’t be beat either. It’s a blessing and a curse to live where we do.
