The way we’re going about it, it’s gotta be one of the assistant coaches still in the bubble.

So TONS of chatter out of Philly that it’s D’Antoni.

They are allegedly even letting teams know that they are opening up for trades.

What’s the Pels’ goal with being the last team to interview candidates or pick a coach? I mean seriously it’s not like it’s an unattractive job. Why wait until everyone picks another team.

Maybe we're not going with a recycled coach?

Plenty of up and coming assistant coaches have made the transition to Head Coach just fine recently

If the Sixers go with MDA, I’m pretty sure we are going to go with Lue, unless the Rockets do.

If it was my guess, I would say the Pelicans don’t have an unlimited budget to go after a big name head coach.

If all of the jobs are taken, the Pelicans Job suddenly becomes more attractive and there wouldn’t be a bidding war. It would be much easier to wait for the Sixers, Houston, and Pacers job to be filled before interviewing because.. at that point they get to pick their guy instead of possibly losing candidates to other jobs.

Can certainly see Lue being interested in Houston.

Chris Quinn is someone who hasn't been mentioned much, but he's been the director of player development for Miami the last 4 years, and that has seemed to go pretty damn well. Last game he was in the huddle drawing up plays during timeouts. I think he may need another 2 years before he gets a HC job. he's still just 36.

Looked him up. He's from New Orleans

Would be surprised if Quinn got a job before Craig.

I mentioned Quinn a few weeks ago. He gets more credit for developing players than Craig does

Of course he actually played in the league so that’s a DO NOT WANT for some

Is there anyone that has said they are specifically against former players?

Not I.
I wouldn’t object to Chris Quinn, but he wouldn’t be my first choice from assistants. I do think he’ll be a good head coach in the future.

And just a FYI, Solo is in the game for the Heat right now.

Yes, there was a thread about it

Something along the lines of “all the top coaches didn’t play in the NBA”

Probably the boy genius lifer types. Brad Stevens, Quinn Snyder. I’m wondering if we’re about to see a shift in coaching now that analytics has been pretty widely accepted. You no longer need a “smart” coach to take advantage of analytics. Many teams have multiple people dedicated to it.

That’s why I wanted Stackhouse with a loaded staff. If these other assistants like Unseld or Craig can bring the buy in I expect with Stackhouse, that works for me better than hiring an Xs and Os genius as head coach.

Im good on the recycled coaches and the "known" coaches. I for one am glad Griff is taking his time and trying to find the right coach for the job instead of trying to hit a "PR homerun."

Rather get a coach than can grow with the team. Wouldnt want a coach who would have some success in N.O. and then leave the minute L.A., New York, big market team comes calling.

There are plenty of good candidates to select from. Plenty. Not worried about missing out on the purported front runners.
