also think we may look back on this draft a few yrs from now and wonder how a guy like Malaki Branham didn't go higher

LOL no he's not
Mathurin has more than twice the attempts as Griffin and as the #1 option... AJ had the luxury of being the 3rd-4th option on that Duke team.

He reminds me of a longer CJ Mccollum ironically. (without the playmaking)

Oh, that's a nice comp--I was thinking Middleton.
He's real smooth and crafty. Always under control--nice spot-up jumper.

Ivey is a pipedream, but I'm a dreamer. Make it happen.

I agree with the guy that said he has a CJ resemblance. He's 19 years old and is already a 3 level scorer with a really mature, developed game. You could play him on ball, or let him be a 40% catch and shoot guy. I'd have no issue with taking him at 8.
My only concern about him is the he went to the same high school as Lebron. I can't see him not ending up with Klutch.

As of now, the New Orleans Pelicans have the No. 8, 41 and 52 picks in the 2022 Draft.

Davis or Mathurin
I'm going to likely go back and forth between the 2 but now I'm in the Davis camp. He's giving me Harden-lite vibes (with Defense)
He's a good compliment to Trey, imho, with his dribbling and playmaking (b/c Trey can't dribble but is a superior 3 point shooter). Both project to great perimeter defenders on the wing. If Hayes is going to stay on the team and we are going to lean on Trey with our bench unit, we need 2 ballhandlers and Mathurin ain't going to do it.

I think all she was hinting at is this pick is found money they weren't expecting and they're happy with the prospects at 8. I think just like the top 4, there's really not a concensus in the back half of the top 10.

I think the Pels move back in and draft FSU John Butler

I’m on the Davis pain train

Alright, I've changed my mind--all in on Branham or Duren.

Trade it and Graham for 5 and get Sharpe ????????
Why on earth would anyone take on more salary for a lesser pick and a player who's best attribute (shooting) is not that great?

I think either Davis or Mathy would be a good pick. Davis probably a bit undervalued by this board due to injuries affecting his game down the stretch. We know he’ll likely be a decent to good nba scorer and defender. And I could certainly see him adding legitimate 3 point range which would make him a starting caliber player on a good team.
Mathy is a bit flashier, probably a bit riskier because he hasn’t been good defensively yet. No reason he can’t be a good defender with his length, athleticism, and toughness.
I think I’d prefer Mathy but Davis seems fine too. Sochan and Daniels are development guys that could make some sense on paper. Agbaji, for me, is a reach at 8.

AGBAJI is not as low ceiling as you think.
He’s athletic, long, strong and only been playing basketball since age 16.
I’d prefer we trade down if we pick him, but tbh he is one of the few win now players in this draft and he’d be an elite fit with our current roster.
Imagine a Zion centric lineup surrounded by great defenders and shooters such as Trey, AGBAJI, and Herb (obv not a great shooter yet, but not bad)

100% on Agbaji…he is likely one of the top 2-3 run/jump athletes in the draft (41.5” vertical at the combine last year) and has a standing reach (8’7.5”) that is longer than any of the wings at the top of the draft. Those are not the physical metrics of a low ceiling player. His only real knock is he is an upperclassman.

I’m going to assume the top 5 go something like this:
1. Smith Jr
2. Holmgren
3. Banchero
4. Ivey
5. Sharpe
Then whichever of Mathurin, Keegan Murray or AJ Griffin is still there at 8

Ivey to Kings doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s another Haliburton situation all over again
Posted on 5/18/22 at 2:48 am to saints5021
Y'all should keep in mind that all these mocks are liable to change after the combine. Some guy is going to measure an inch taller than thought, and someone else will stun everyone with his vertical, etc. -- it happens every year.
