I have always enjoyed going to the games and never have perceived an issue with the arena.

The building has aged poorly. Half of the offices in there are currently using temp hvac systems. There was a busted pipe that backed up toilet water outside the courtside entrance recently. The club rooms are both horrid, there is little to no ventilation on one side.

The current buildout does not offer much room for lower bowl expansion, which the league wants.

The building was built on a shoestring budget.

Looks like Landry is shopping for an NHL team to share a potential new facility. He knows they need another anchor to make the money work.

LINK

A new arena could host NBA / NHL and bring in new music and event tours. I would add a WNBA team, which would have the facility occupied over half the year. Regular use would return the investment in an only a few years and be a tourism stimulus.

Why should taxpayers pay even a single dollar to the 2nd richest person in the state? If she wants a new arena or renovations, she can pay for it with her own damn money and not be a welfare billionaire. If she can’t afford it, then Gayle needs to get off her arse and pick herself up by her bootstraps and work harder.

Any of y’all’s businesses get hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money despite being a company that employs maybe 100 people? Pelicans do nothing for tourism and nothing to increase state revenue, so why is she getting even a single dollar of taxpayer money?

It’s sad to see maga whine and bitch about government spending and efficiency and then be ok with giving her so much taxpayer money, but that’s what happens when you’re in the party of helping billionaires.

She only covered $180m and then immediately went up on tickets, parking and concessions 15%.
So, no other professional sports teams increased ticket prices or concessions?

That's the only major issue (and it is major) I see that cannot easily be fixed with renovations. I am not an engineer, so do not know if that can be addressed with the current structure.

You gonna incent the fans to support all of those teams? NHL is not coming to New Orleans. That is a pipe dream at the very best (and that may be stretching it).

Well first off you do know that the arena is used for more than basketball games right?

You do also know that the Pelicans pay rent to use the SKC and that goes to the state right?

Do you know how much tax revenue an NFL and NBA team brings to a community/state?

Just a city being able to host an All Star weekend pumps around 400 million dollars give or take into the local economy. You could probably about double that for a Super Bowl. Combine that with the millions raked in by hosting other events like concerts, the final 4, etc etc and the state/local government can rake in a shitload of revenue, and guess what, that revenue doesn’t go into the pockets of that billionaire you hate so much.

I just wish New Orleans could get with the times and have a least one new modern facility. Nothing wrong with the superdome, but constantly just putting bandaids on our venues blows.

There are many other issues behind the scenes that a fan wouldn't notice.

The NBA HATES the facility.

Why not do a temorary hotel and motel GNOLA tax and use that money to build a brand new facility. It would be paid by tourists and keep everyone happy. Do it for 15 years.

Maybe the NBA should chip in to replace it.

They would if she built the arena.

problem is she's a terrible business person, and she has no interest in actually making money considering she's giving all her wealth away when she dies.

Assumption? Or do you have contacts within the NBA?

Nothing. Why invest in a new arena for a league in slow death motion?

A new arena is a great investment for a city that runs on tourism. I've seen 20 smarter posters try to point this out to the slow thinking trolls. It's alright lead poisoning is a real thing.

Concerts, events, and yes sporting events are revenue generating. If you put the stadium in the right spot it could also revitalize a district but it has to be done correctly.
