What theory on the delay in hiring SVG do you believe in?

1) He is the guy but they are using the time to interview and try to assemble the best assistants
Or
2) he does not have the job locked up and the Pelicans are seriously talking to and considering others.

Stan seems to check most of the boxes Griff has laid out, but the delay and Joel suggesting age is a factor makes me wonder. JJ is way older than the Pels core, so his endorsement may not mean much. Thibs had Butler and Noah to implement his culture and still couldn't get through to KAT and Wiggins.

I may have posted that we have more interviews lined up based on reports.
But I am of the opinion that if you have your guy you hire him. And maybe they will.
Just seems like if he was THE guy they wouldn't have waited over a week unless: He's NOT the guy just A guy, or they are trying to get the assistants in order before announcing.

Tiger and I have been saying that and I stand by it.
My guess was you wouldn’t get an announcement until today at the very earliest(assuming all the interviews were Monday and Tuesday) but very possibly into next week. Plus, with so many of the vacancies filled, what’s the rush anyways?
If Griff had additional interviews lined up, which all credible rumors point to, it is poor form to basically just blow them off and signal they were never really serious about you as a finalist anyways. Or to not even give you a fair chance simply because someone else made a compelling pitch that fell on the schedule sooner. Especially if you are interested in them in some other capacity or want to keep the door open, or in the case of Will Weaver, someone that will be involved in developing one of your own players and would be making extra accommodations to come back/stay longer in America, than go back to Australia and quarantine.
I don’t know if SVG is really the front runner, but I do think Griffin would do his due diligence regardless and want to honor his commitments, the process, and the people he is considering.

Shams reported that they have interviews the week.
Plus, I just don't think you want it to be so obvious that you didn't get your first choice by hiring SVG immediately after Lue came off the board.

Yeah I know that, but I also think when you have your guy, you hire him. Teams have "interviews lined up" all the time but hire their guy anyway when they have him. Its all part of the business.
Also, anyone find it interesting that the only name that has leaked is SVG. None of the other guys have leaked for sure.

I am not sold that it is going to be SVG for sure. I keep hearing Unseld's name. Personally I am not that high on Unseld but there are no assistants that I would be ecstatic about anyway. I like Ham and Craig ok as potential first timer options. For that matter, I am not dead set on any options right now. Atkinson with a strong assistant (Weaver) is a nice combo. SVG would be ok, but the age issue is a concern. Who knows?

I don't think he is wrong. I also do believe the wait is over. Pacers did not choose Finch and Doc/ Lue are gone. The only 2 teams we are competing with are OKC and HOU. I'm not sure they are both even looking for the same guy as us.
We have Unseld Jr, Weaver, Finch, SVG, Atkinson, Craig, and Mosley to choose from as of now. Is it possible that we are trying to find the best potential combo of the group and convincing them to come here?
