Trey to Blazers proposal

Pro Pels talk podcast had some interesting banter a couple weeks ago about a potential Trey Murphy trade for Donovan Clingan and one of their guards/wings, potentially Shaeden Sharpe or maybe Camara. Clingan is the perfect type of center that we've been looking for. He stretches the floor, can protect the rim, and doesn't have a high usage rate, and he's cost controlled for 2 more years.
The blazers have way too many guards now after the Ja trade, and they need to unload somebody. They just resigned Robert Williams for 3 years, and they also have Yang Hanson, so they do have some depth in the front court, so their center room wouldn't be totally bare.
Would you do this as the base of the trade?
Pels: send out TM3
Blazers: send out Clingan & Sharpe
Would you have to include Missi, Matkovic, or something else to sweeten the pot and give the blazers some center depth in return? We just resigned DeAndre Jordan to be our 3rd string center/player coach.
Why would the blazers do this?
Would either team need to give up a 1st round pick up sweeten the pot? Which team would have to give up the pick .
Either way, with our 2 glaring holes at C and SG last year, we can patch both of them with this type of trade. Flame away my friends...

They were not willing to give up Clingan for Jaylen Brown. Certainly not doing it for Trey,

Clingan is going to have to produce at a higher rate than one made 3ptr per game on three attempts before I consider him a floor spacing big. Sure, those attempt numbers may be slightly below Turner, but teams will be more than happy conceding offensive possessions that end in a Clingan 3pt attempt.

But wasn't it filler, clingan, Sharpe, and multiple picks?
We could very well just ask for less.
That being said - my biggest gripe is definitely sharpe's playoff run was horrid. It's scary how big a drop off it was and potentially having to pay him big money is terrifying.

Yep, bring it on.
Dejounte/Fears
Sharpe/Poole
Herb/Bey
Zion/Queen
Klingan/Missi/Jordan
No way it works out that well for us though.

Pels say no. I like Sharpe to an extent, but not enough to accept 2 shite picks and 2 shite players as the other part of the package.

You obviously haven't seen Garza play. He is a player.
Also one pick is Cenac. If that does anything for you.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted so much personally. I’m not in the “Trade TM3” camp, but this is the first trade that makes some sense for us if I’m reading that Orlando pick right (unprotected 2028 Orlando). And one I could see the other teams doing with their current situations playing out.
- could be lottery ticket draft pick? Check
- Immediate prospects? Check
- a low floor/high ceiling scoring prospect? Check
- more in line with current timeline? Check
ETA: I think Portland would have to compensate in place of the Cenac spot somehow, this is a tough pill for Boston even with Brown’s depressed market.

I'm intrigued by Cenac. And I understand the other 2 dudes in the package can shoot. I honestly would want more draft compensation with a chance to become something meaningful or be used in trades. Maybe 2 more far out picks and I would be more on board. I truly think 15 teams are after Trey. I really don't want to settle on his trade. Someone is going to have to pay the piper.

That's fair. Maybe the Blazers throw in a pick & a swap and you remove a celtics player.
It's never going to happen anyway ??

Why do we keep trying get rid of Trey under $30M annually. New guy hopefully help with his dribbling

As awesome as Trey is, has limitations in his game that not aren't so obvious to the rest of the NBA. His ball handling, defense, passing skills, and primary shot creation skills might get marginally better, but they are likely not getting drastically better this far into his career.
He's a very good #3 on a contending team, but probably will never be a #1a, #1b, or #2. His value may never be higher, it might be closer to a #2 in the league right now. The longer you hold on to him, the higher chance he becomes an Ingram or Zion in provided perceived value once the rest of the league realizes his limitations.

They already set his price and have made him available if the price lines up. If someone ponies up, they'll move him. That's how it should be.

Completely agree, we didn't get a deal done before or at the draft, but there may be a secondary market for players once the 1st round of free agency passes and teams don't hit on their targets.

We just seen Kessler go for 2 1sts and 2 swaps
Trey should fetch that at a minimum with a player

If the pistons rumor is real I’d try to get a swap as well

I wonder if Cleveland would be interested in a reunion with Lavert while saving a bunch of money?
Pistons: Trey, Hawk
Pels: Allen, Holland, 1 1st
Cavs: Lavert, 2 1sts

If we're not going big game hunting, and instead looking for a backup big for a platoon lineup, Quentin Post or Nick Richards are the best of what's left. Post offers some floor spacing, and Richards can bang a little down low.
I doubt we're going into the season with the current C rotation, we're likely waiting out the market to see what opportunities may arise once LeBron signs with a new team.
