He's missed time, yes, but he is averaging 23-5-5 on 47% from the field and 39% from three. Playing better defense more consistently than at any point on our team and lets not forget we went 3-8 without him. Our win percentage falls to 27% without him or Zion, around .500 with him. Despite several games he wasnt 100%.

He is one of only 6 players averaging at least 22-5-5 on over 47% from the field and 37% from three. The others are Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Nikola Jokic, Damian Lillard, and Donovan Mitchell.

I would like him to take more threes and fewer long twos, attack the basket more and honestly learn to sell fouls better, but he is one of the best offensive scorers in the league.

Wow. Just wow. This is a massive reach.

Ehh not really. The talking heads of sports media were suggesting that we should move when things were looking bad last season. I don’t agree with it but they were pushing that narrative.

Again.. Wow. Zion begged for the extension. It's the most money he can get. He's not taking the deal without the Pelicans making the playin?

So you think it was a forgone conclusion that Zion would have signed with us even if we were the worst team in the league?

You must watch a lot of basketball I can tell…

He is a maxed out "star"

He’s definitely a Star in the league… not sure what you’re getting at throwing shade on BI. I’ve been looking at the game logs and his numbers are pretty good imo. He’s just been banged up this year. Still averaging 23/5/5 shooting 47%FGs as a wing in this league is nothing to turn your nose up at…

Again, you must watch a lot of basketball… I can tell…

It’s all about confidence with Trey. Has all the talent in the world.

Trey is very talented but if he is going to reach an all-star level, he is going to have to start showing a more diverse offensive game with the ball in his hands.

Trey is an amazing two-foot leaper, deadeye shooter, and
has no fear when attacking the basket, but he hasn't yet developed that ability to break guys down and create his own shot. If he is able to add some of those elements to his game over the next couple of years, we will have something extremely special with Trey.

One of the knocks on him coming into the draft was that he didn't show the ability to beat his man one-on-one on a consistent basis.

He is already a lethal catch & shoot guy with the ability to dunk on anyone on a straight line drive. If he ever develops a quick dibble pullup game when guarded 0ne-on-one or attacking closeouts, he is going to be a 20pt per game guy easily.

And that is really what is holding him back right now.

He honestly needs to be shadowing CJ and Bi cause both of them are very talented at getting their own shots.

I'd prefer more CJ than BI, cause the greatest skill Trey could add is an off-dribble three and a drive and pull up. Which CJ is very good at.

Emphatically yes. Zion was never turning down an extension. He begged for it at the end of the season. Then he took a deal with built in protections. So he kind of took less..

I think he has improved a lot from last year. He could legit barely dribble last year. He's a lot more confident attacking a closeout now. He's still not great with the ball in his hands but has improved from his rookie year which is promising

Pretty sure he's referring to 2 years running now of BI being a fairly inefficient volume shooter, which is true.

BI is 15th in usage rate in the NBA. Only 1 player in that top 15 has a lower TS% than BI, and that's Morant, who I've mentioned quite a few times in the weekly non-Pels thread on this board. Even earlier in the season when Ja was getting MVP love and "top 5 player in the NBA" from many pundits, I was scratching my head about that because he's clearly having a down season compared to last year. Again, that was before the past couple of weeks.

The mid-range jumper is great, fantastic...he just does it too much. You can get a contested mid range shot any time you want, so it's something you should only do late in a shot clock or if you're just on fire and on a heat check.

Last night, when I was randomly thinking about the type of #2 Star I'd like to ideally have next to Zion, my mind went to a prime Klay Thompson, who would provide better spacing than the mid-range obsessive BI.

I started comparing their recent stats. I was surprised to learn Klay takes about 18 2pt attempts and 11 3pt attempts (29 shots per game) while BI takes 18 2pt/att and 4 3pt/att's (22 shots per game).

I did not know that BI took less total shots than Klay...or that Klay puts up just as many 2's each game as BI, to go along with Klay's 41% 3pt shooting. I guess I've only really noticed Klay behind the arc taking his 11 threes, and not his 18 non-3 attempts.

A 17 foot pull up jumper would be great for Trey to add. He doesn't need much space to take 3s, if they over play the 3 he can dunk on any basket that doesn't have a true rim protector, that poster dunk through Powell was straight up disrespectful, and when there is a rim protector, just pull up from 17 feet and hit the jumper at a high rate because you're an elite shooter.

Recent stats? You mean when Klay was the #1 option when Curry was out? klay shoots a lot less when Curry is healthy.

And it's still a long shot, that only gets you 2 points. BI would just be better off perfecting his 3.

Herb, JV is a dinosaur, and hatred of BI/his mid range game are about the only three things you can talk about. It's crazy. No matter what the subject/thread is, you're going to work one of those subjects in there no matter what. We get it. Try talking about something else sometimes.

This is true

In fairness to Dinky, he said he'd try to stop.

Not in fairness to Dinky, he started an entire thread to say he'd stop talking about it...for 48 hours only.

Well, that, and his relentless push for acquiring Bridges & Claxton, which I fully support.

You got your numbers way wrong.

Klay Thompson is not taking 29 shots a game. If he was, he'd be averaging 35ppg.

He's attempting 18 total shots, and 11 of them are 3's. Only 7 of them are 2's.
Klay averages 22ppg
BI's also attempting 18 total shots a game. He's averaging 23ppg.

Klay averages 2.5 assists and 1.8 turnovers basically. BI is 4.8 assists and 3.2 turnovers, and this is the most turnovers BI has ever averaged.

TS% and Eff% would lead you to believe that Klay is the more efficient player. Makes no sense to me considering they both take the same amount of shots, yet BI averages more points, while BI has the higher Assists/TO ratio even though it's his highest TO season of his career.
Regardless of what shot BI takes, he makes more points per shot attempt than Klay does. Is that not the definition of being a more efficient scorer?

Most of you probably don't realize that BI is shooting 39.3% from 3 this year.

Love watching Trey's progression and growth so far, its nice to be able to see it and watch him grow.

a g-league, 5 PPG scorer that has grown to 13PPG in his 2nd year while taking a monumental leap as a player.

Next year, 100% expect him to shoot >8 3s a game

Trey did have a kind of awkward crossover last night late in the shot clock that drew a foul.

His shooting form isn't ideal for pull ups imo. He's a guy that shoots square to the basket. He doesn't shoot at off angles or on the move. It's one of the reasons he's pretty efficient.
