Well, we kind of have to make a move now, if we want a chance to compete against Phoenix.
What move balances the scales? There aren’t any. The only move that ultimately works is time. Dick puncher is at the end. KD is a year older.
Hold serve, grow organically, and continue to get better. If there is a move to shed Jax/Graham that adds a piece or sheds salary, make it. If not, hold serve.

This.
I still feel this team fully healthy can go punch for punch with any team in the west, including the fricking Suns. Yeah i know that's a big caveat for us but it also is for the Suns too, who now are significantly worse on defense.

This. BI and Zion haven’t reached their prime yet plus like you say there is a somewhat decent chance this totally blows up in their face bc of CP and KDs age.

The Suns have no bench now and will need Durant and Paul to stay healthy and play big minutes. Those picks going to the Nets could be real good in a couple of years.

Yeah I mean we already have the best thing to slow Durant down with. We can throw fresh young long defenders at him like Herb, Dyson, Naji, and Trey.
I would like another shooter off the bench to help this team. The assets I think we have in terms of players are Graham, Hayes, and if the player is good enough I would throw Herb in there. I wouldn’t mind keeping Trey in the starting lineup for floor spacing with BI and Zion.

Graham and Hayes are not assets.

Trey would get eaten alive on defense against KD, and with the others we hurt ourselves offensively.

Agree. Pels roster is still super young and talented (with a bunch of picks) and nothing any other team does changes that unless the Pels do it to themselves by making dumb moves.
The areas for possible improvement are the same as they already were too (shooting and a 4/5 backup for Zion that can help JV/Larry).
If we can use some of this shuffling to swap DG and Jax for some shooting and big man bench help, then the Pels can let it ride and compete with anyone.

Well this sucks.
We’re about to be stuck in the land of good but not great.

Yeah, I pulled up YouTube this morning and saw “Durant to Suns” and I’m like “WTF, I was only asleep 5 hours”.

This season is all about playoff experience and figuring out our plan going forward.
A title was a possibility this year but likely wasn’t happening with limited playoff experience.
Plus side? Kyrie is Kyrie, meaning he could walk on Dallas and leave them fricked while Phoenix is dependent on Durant and CP3 staying healthy. Not good in the short term for us but that is a lot of long term problems for both teams.

The worst thing the Pels could do is make a panic trade.
ETA: agree with Teke, get to the playoffs, get some experience. Find where your holes are (I think we kinda know these already), and address them in the off-season.

I’m still salty about the lakers trade. Imagine having Beasley and Vanderbilt over Hayes and Graham. All it took was one fricking 1st round protected pick that can change into 2nd round picks.

A panic trade would be doing something dumb like trading everything for Jimmy Butler.
Bridges is 26, Claxton is 23. Both are under contract for more than this year, and neither one of the 2 changes your timeline as they are both young and able to stay for the next 6-10 years
They also fill our two biggest weaknesses (shooting and defense), and makes us WAY more competitive now and into the future, while still leaving us with assets to trade.

With what.
All the big fish have just about been caught.

If bridges and Claxton are available I absolutely reach out to at least see the cost.

Someone comes available suddenly every season.
Guys unexpectedly opt out of their contract. Guys with 4 years left demand a trade. Teams who expect to contend aren’t contenders and want to cut salary.
THIS crop of guys is gone. But keeping our powder fresh lets us jump on a trade of opportunity.

I don't think a godfather offer is possible for Durant, in all honesty.
I will say I was wrong but I think the Suns fleeced the Nets and the Nets got probably 50-75% of what they were demanding in the offseason.

Nets gambled on being a contender and it worked until Kyrie went Kyrie.
Posted on 2/9/23 at 7:06 am to SlowFlowPro
I think it was a pretty fair trade. 4 unprotected 1sts and a swap is A LOT of draft capital. Bridges and Cam Johnson are also very good players.
