Overall I don't think anyone in the West got significantly better. It's a shame Boogie got hurt because if he hadn't and they still make the Mirotic deal, the Pels probably would have been the playoff team in the West that improved the most at the deadline.

Warriors/Rockets/Spurs - Didn't do anything and didn't really need to.

Minnesota - didn't make a trade but seem likely to pick up Derrick Rose once he clears waivers. More DRose and less Tyus Jones is probably good for the Pels. It also could lead to Aaron Brooks getting bought out and the Pels are so thin at guard he could be a useful addition.

Portland - Dumped Noah Vonleh to get under the tax.

Denver - Traded Mudiay for Devin Harris and a 2nd. Mudiay wasn't very good and Harris is serviceable so that makes Denver a little better.

Pels - Added Mirotic and turned Dante into a little tax breathing room which may be useful with players that get bought out, but probably not.

Clippers - The Blockbuster Blake trade was followed up by keeping DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams. They will remain a threat.

Jazz - Traded Rodney Hood and Joe Johnson for Jae Crowder. This should make their defense a little better but their offense a lot worse. Snyder is still a wizard, but I'd say the Jazz got weaker.

I don't thik we add Mirotic if Boogie doesn't get hurt. The Cousins injury forced Dell to get up off his arse to save his job. I think we can still be a good team and make the playoffs with our current players, but we need a little time to mesh. I expect a different team after the allstar break. Our defense will definitely be better. We'll probably hang around the 7 or 8 seed and Play Houston or Golden State.

Dealing Dell deals the first with Asik for Mirotic 99 times out of 100

Correct -- he had multiple deals on the table (most of which were reported incorrectly by others), but none of them got them a player or a contract as good as Mirotic.

He was not giving up a first for Matthews. I forgot who else I saw mentioned, but he basically had some lesser wings offered and had some talks about Jae Crowder, but Mirotic was by far the best player that he could have gotten for that pick while also shipping out Asik. Plus he got a pick and shed two dead weight guys.... thats how it would have played out regardless

So does Frenchie become an asset for us now? I imagine it will be pretty easy to move his 5 million expiring contract next year.

now, that is interesting!

Tom Thibodeau killed his career enough for the Bulls to can him (Pels had a legit shot at bringing Thibs to the Pels but like the fans were too scared to). Thibs brings him into Minny and resurrects the MVP.

I likez it!

I doubt it. Rather than trade him for a useful player with more money or future years on his deal, which could happen, they're more likely to pay to dump him and avoid or lower taxes.

The two others I saw reported were:

Asik + 1st for Clarkson
Anjica + 2nd for Randle

That Matthews one seemed like pure BS when reported and the Randle one seemed light on our part, though I am sure something along those lines was offered. I cannot imagine he offered a 1st to turn Clarkson into Asik and LA rejected that. I have to believe it was Asik + Anjica at least.

Dell made the right choice. Mirotic is a great addition regardless of the Boogie injury. He fits great and is going to be a big boost once he gets acclimated in the offense and comfortable with everyone. I love his movement constantly diving, cutting, screening, rotating to open space, but these first couple of games he is running around like a chicken with his head cut off relative to the other players.

Rumor is we were angling for bazemore. I think the mirotic Deal would have still been a possibility if we couldn’t pull off acquiring bazemore.

They weren't taking Bazemore. That would have guaranteed lux tax

Only way Baze would’ve worked would’ve been with Asik. And I would’ve thrown a fit.

Baze is basically Etwaun. Baze is a little better at defense and Moore is a little better on offense.

This means more Diallo, yeah?

I would think a buyout vet like Frye/Lopez, both of whom LA says they're keeping, would take minutes from Cheick. But outside of that Diallo probably controls how much Diallo we see. Hopefully he keeps up the competent play because having him as a useful rotation big next year will be very helpful.

Anjica+Diallo and a 2nd for Randle

Lakers get more cap room after next year, draft pick and a young cheap big with potential that they can tryout for a player that could possibly leave after this year.

Pels get a big that can help make the playoffs this year while freeing cap space. Even if its just a half season rental. Or resign if Boogie doesn't look to be healthy for next year.

I wonder if the Lakers would have considered this deal.

I doubt it. Lakers wanted cap relief for this coming year. Ajinca and Diallo for Randle doesn’t accomplish that.

I was going off of the reports that Lakers have decided to focus on the 2019 free agent crop.

Sporting news article:
quote:

LAKERS REPORTEDLY SHIFTING FOCUS TO 2019 FREE AGENT CLASS

quote:

The report did clarify that the Lakers haven't abandoned hope of landing top-end free agents this year, but have become increasingly interested in the 2019 class, which could include Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard.

Yeah, they need to mesh while removing their heads from their asses.

That report came out, and then a few days later the Lakers made a trade that freed up enough cap space for them to sign 2 max level players in the 2018 offseason.

Lakers were not taking on more salary. They want some superstars.

They want to go after Cousins, James, and George.

Would love to see this lineup.

PG - Ball
SG - Ingram
SF - George
PF - James
C - Cousins

Boogie won't be Boogie next year. We traded what will end up being around the 12th pick for Mirotic who will probably only improve us to around 38-40 wins the next two seasons. Needed to make a 2nd move before the deadline if we actually wanted to improve. Mirotic trade will ultimately be a lottery pick for a bandaid on gunshot wound.
Only positive is not making the playoffs might finally get some people fired.
