Actually it helps in 2 ways. 1 it helps the STHs subsidize their STs so they keep buying them. 2 it introduces fans to the game that aren't prepared to pay full price yet. Is it as good as buying directly from the team? No, but it definitely does more than nothing.

don't you live out of state and have season tickets or something? Or is that another Alejandro I'm getting you confused with?

You all might dismiss it, but as soon as football season is over and everyone sees how great this team is, the bandwagon will be overflowing. You can take that to the bank.
That is unless pelican fans don't alienate the shite out of them before they get a chance.
Remember '07-'08-'09, hornets fans were coming out of every crack and seem in the city chanting cp3 mvp. It will happen.

For all intents and purposes, football season (in LA) is over. LSU and Saints are both putting out some hot garbage on the field.
AD, on the other hand, is leading the league in PER. I think a lot of people are going to start turning toward the Pels since all hope in the Saints and LSU has been lost.

This really isn't a "New Orleans fans suck" thing but an issue across the entire NBA. The attendance numbers haven't been stellar for most of the markets in the NBA. The bottom line is that once the Pels start winning consistently, the fans will come. For the record, this will be the year where we turn the corner and convince the fan base that we are legit. Let's keep in mind that it wasn't too long ago that the beloved Saints were consistently at risk of games being blacked out. Winning cures all woes.

Many of the arguments in this thread are from people making assumptions about attendance or making hasty generalizations.
The biggest factors in attendance for teams with no real title legacy are: current record, last season's record, night of the week, opponent, and having a star in no particular order.
Football has very little to do with it in general or in the NBA. The numbers just do not bear it out.
Of all the things in this thread, the idea that winning will fix things is the closest thing to the truth. Of course, what is the problem? The business support is growing, and that is more important. Stars absolutely do not care about attendance (what is reported in terms of sales or butts in seats). Some talking heads, franchise figures, or players can make reference, but it is all just yammering. LeBron and Dwight are enough to tell you that attendance does not help keep a star, for instance. It's also not just about tickets, it's about which ones. Businesses (some) buy the high dollar ones ... Those matter waaay more than my seats, for instance.

Where do I find the cheap seats? I've asked the wife and kid, and they'd like to go - plus we have another couple and their son interested in going with us. I went to ticketmaster, and of course the first game I checked was against the Cavs. The nosebleed seats were $108. Found a team that sucks, and nosebleeds are $40 something. Saw a commercial for a family pack for 3 tickets and 3 combo meals for $120, picked a sucky team in mid-December, and ticketmaster said it was unavailable. If $40 is the cheapest, that's not too bad as long as it's just a few games a year. But are there cheaper seats that I haven't found?
Step 1 - Buy season tickets for $300ish per seat
Step 2 - Sell Cavs tickets to some dip like this for $100 per seat
Step 3 - Have tickets to 40 other games for $5 per seat per game (or less)
Step 4 - ????
Step 5 - Profit

Could be, but don't be so didactic.

Agreed.

True in most markets I suppose, but I think N.O. may be just a little different. I'm not saying the Saints are the main factor, but a factor.

Whenever I see a bunch of empty club level seats, I tell myself that at least they're paid for. I do think a full house makes for a better game experience, and enthusiasm can be contagious. Once this team becomes a consistent winner and at least challenges in the playoffs, we should be back to 07-08 levels (although, remember attendance didn't really ramp up until February that season).

In general maybe not; in nola, I argue differently. Nolanites need something to latch onto for outward pride. Can you pull attendance for games in 2008? I would be willing to bet money that the attendance spiked in January through end of year compared to fall.
ETA:
On a side note, they NEED to dim the lights on the crowd badly. First off, I think it does wonders for the environment in the arena; and two, it makes the empty seats not as visible for people watching on tv and in person. People would be louder if they didnt feel like they were alone in a sea of seats.
I have a portion of two seats in the club for season and so far in the 4 games I went to; my row was empty except for me and my guest 2 out of the 4. Dimming the lights would make the sea of chairs not so in your face.
I was watching the Lakers, Cavs game this past weekend and I love the way they do it. It draws much more attention to the court.

I heard that Alejandro cancelled his 8 Pelicans season tickets because Mike Stanfeld of the Saints cancelled almost all of his Saints season tickets, even though Alejandro had owned at least 20 Saints season tickets from 2004 on, and added his extra 50 season tickets as part of an altruistic MBA/Economics project at Loyola University in 2006 to try and help the team sell out the Superdome and stay in New Orleans.

Couldn't agree more. And how about having live local jazz musicians with a softer spotlight on them up in the balcony as they play the 15 second music snippets while the ball is taken up and down the court.
I mean - you can do something cool/unique/New Orleans like that... or you can play the stupid fricking bass beat to John Cougar Mellencamp's 1983 hit "Jack and Diane" or the "WEEE-yoooo!" part of Gwen Stefani's 2006 hit "Sweet Escape" for the 1,000,000th time each like the other 29 teams in the league

I had a good friend working for the then-Hornets a few years back who campaigned hard for Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk to serve as the in-house band. Apparently the deal fell through at the last mintue. If I recall correctly, however, Irvin Mayfield did serve a similar role at some point. Maybe 2011-2012?

It's really maddening how stupid the Saints and Pelicans marketing and creative departments are.
The Saints' success has really ruined them b/c now nobody there knows how to market or appeal to the fans of the city.
