Dumbest thing most people I've spoken to have said is "This is a football city" as the reason they don't support their local team.

They follow a perceived popular opinion. But the thing they can't respond to is, "Why can't you like them both?" No one ever said you had to like only one or the other.

I think it's equal parts most people old enough to buy their own season tickets are fans of other NBA teams and are loyal to them. I know there was more than a few Lakers fans filling the stands. Same goes for the Bulls or Celtics. They bandwagoned onto other teams and won't abandon them.

So stupid and frustrating, but it is what it is. Luckily, kids love basketball and they're growing up with the Pels as their favorite team. When they get the money, they'll buy tickets and then they'll bring their kids to games and so on and so on.

The 18 year olds today buying tickets (college freshmen) were 6 when the team came here. That's something to hang your hat on. They were SMALL CHILDREN. We're just now beginning to reap the dividends of New Orleans children only knowing us as a 2-team town. More perspective: People being forced to hold mom or dad's hand when crossing the street from the Superdome parking garage to the arena are now old enough to buy tickets.

AD will be a bigger deal nationally and internationally, but he will never be bigger than Drew is in New Orleans. Drew brought a super bowl and had a big hand in post-Katrina rebuilding. Hard to compete with that.

tickets are cheap

Where do I find the cheap seats? I've asked the wife and kid, and they'd like to go - plus we have another couple and their son interested in going with us. I went to ticketmaster, and of course the first game I checked was against the Cavs. The nosebleed seats were $108. Found a team that sucks, and nosebleeds are $40 something. Saw a commercial for a family pack for 3 tickets and 3 combo meals for $120, picked a sucky team in mid-December, and ticketmaster said it was unavailable. If $40 is the cheapest, that's not too bad as long as it's just a few games a year. But are there cheaper seats that I haven't found?

You bring up a good point about this, New Orleans has only had a team since 2002 so many people have been influenced by the Michael Jordan and the Bulls in the 90s and Kobe and the Lakers in the late 90s very early 2000s and just stayed casual fans of those teams. I fall into the group of kids that know New Orleans as a two team town but just because kids know New Orleans as a two team town doesn't mean they will end up being Pelicans fans (especially in Baton Rouge).

Growing up in Baton Rouge the only time people seemed to care about the Pelicans/Hornets was the 2007-2008 season and onward until Chris Paul left. After Chris Paul left interest in the team plummeted and no one followed the team. The sad thing is that even though the Pelicans have AD and AD is a top 5 player in the league no one in Baton Rouge knows about him or how freaking good he is. Part of this problem is the Pelicans' fault because there are zero billboards/TV or radio ads promoting the team here and it drives me nuts. Hell, a billboard on I-10 saying something cheesy like "Come see the Pelicans #TakeFlight with ALL STAR Anthony Davis, get your tickets now" and leaving that phone number that ends in "HOOP" or pelicans.com/tickets would be a major step up. I understand New Orleans is a big city that can support the team essentially on its own, but they are missing out on a pretty big market in Baton Rouge (Greater Baton Rouge has about 800,000 people). In the end, it is just frustrating knowing that so many people are missing out on a once in a generation talent like Anthony Davis.

TL;DR - LSUneaux has a good point, but sadly doesn't result in more Pelicans fans imo. Also, the Pelicans do a terrible job of marketing in Baton Rouge.

Stubhub baw. They start at like $5 for most games and what you see is what you pay. Won't be that cheap for the Cleveland game obviously but most games start $5-10 on there

Stubhub is promoted on Westwood One radio coverage of Monday night football. It's definitely legit.

Stubhub is 100% legit. There is also the NBA ticket exchange for people reselling their tickets.

I have used both multiple times with no issues.

And regarding attendance... part of the problem is the NBA wants fans to spend the same per game as an NFL game. But with the number of NBA games per year, you are seeing a smaller percentage of the season each game.

Each home game in the NBA is 2.4% of the home schedule.
Each home game in the NFL is 12.5% of the home schedule.

The guys in my office have never heard of Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans. They only know that the guy with the uni brow is pretty good.

buying tickets on the secondary market does nothing to help the teams attendance
