The Pelicans have started 5-4. Happy with the start, or disappointed?

5-4 with the number is missed games by starters is decent IMO. 5-4 with starters playing every game would’ve been somewhat of a disappointment.

Overall happy for sure

5-4 with 3 or so missed games for Zion & BI, and 4 games with buzzer beater type shots and 3 haven't gone our way with 1 being the miracle final 1.6 seconds for the Lakers.

Our Starting 5 has yet to play 3 straight games together. We'll be fine.

The glass is absolutely half full. This has been a rough start full of injury, mistakes and chemistry issues. Even with a stumbling, rough start they are above .500 Most of the problems they are having are things that will work themselves out with more games played.

If they can stay .500ish until they iron out their issues, they'll be a playoff team ready to make some noise in the playoffs.

Somewhat happy, but it's concerning to me that this team still plays down to competition.

Hopefully this can be coashed out of them and is not a charecter flaw.

The fact they have been competitive up until the buzzer in every game sans the Suns makes me stomach it more.

3 out of 4 losses in OT. For that alone I'm happy but a little disappointed as well that we couldn't close any of those OT games when we sure in the hell should have.

This is somewhere around where I am, although slightly more frustrated.

Holding BI out as long as they did was really frustrating as a fan.

The offense looks pretty disjointed at times, Herb has been a bit off quite a lot, and Zion has just been flat out disappointing. His defense has regressed quite a lot, the energy he has had in the first game has just kind of evaporated into looking slightly out of shape again.

Hopefully they shake the rust off

The Lakers game stings, Atlanta was frustrating but also a B2B, but considering only the Rockets are tied with us for the fewest home games so far this season, and we are poised to pass them this week(and stand alone with the fewest), I'd say slightly above .500 given being without our best player for over half of that is pretty good all things considered.

None of us should be happy with the current product, but we should all also be understanding.

Herb has had a rough start to the season

Zion isn't rust free or game shape ready yet.

B.I. getting hurt sucked.

All things considered this team is going to find its legs 20-25 games in with all the starters gelling.

That's basically where I fall

Injuries, some things I see I don't like, bad "buzzer beater" losses...and yet still 5-4. The hope is that speaks to how good we are that we've had this bad luck but still a decent start.

Would rather be 7-2, but we could be 3-6, so I will take 5-4. All things considered having above a .500 record is better than having a below .500 record.

I guess it's nice to be able to say that 3 of the 4 losses were in OT, but that also means you couldn't close the games out.

It's also disappointing to see the starters routinely have a negative +/- while Jose and Nance seem to be the only reason we are doing so well, but i'd say you can turn that into a positive in that i don't expect the starters to continue to struggle, and once they figure it out we'll start blowing teams out, like we did in those first two games before Naji knocked BI out and Zion fell on his arse and Herb hyperextended his knee.

I do think it's obvious that we can beat any team in the league. What's important to get close to that 50 win mark is to beat the teams you're obviously better than at a high rate. You can't expect to win them all, but you need to beat the bottom 10 teams at a good 75% win rate.

Between injuries and the ridiculous road trips, I'd say it's fair. Haven't played anywhere near our best ball yet. But I expected our guys needing to gel and develop chemistry over the course of the season.

Jrue had slow starts every year, I'm sure Davis missed games early some years, we've had very similar problems to deal with to start the season before but would be 2-7 at this point in the past. Being not just 5-4, but also 3 lucky breaks away from 8-1, shows just how much depth this team has and how good it is.

Given the injuries and the fact that three losses were in OT, I consider myself "pleased." Not ecstatic because you'd like to have gotten 1 or 2 of those OT games, but still pleased.

Yea, we definitely didn't do well in the 3 OTs.

The way I look at it, we've had 4 games come down essentially to a final shot, and 3 of those were very low percentage shots in our favor, but 3 of those also happened to go in.

- Luka 3 - Don't get me wrong I and I'm sure everyone was deathly afraid, but a stepback 3 from 28 feet or whatever is a low % shot, 30-35% max

- Lakers shot - Not even factoring in how they got to that point, but inbounds with 1.6 seconds left, that's another very low % shot, maybe 20-30%

- Dejounte Murray - Tough middie with a hand right in his face, probably doesn't make that at a clip much higher than 35%

- Olynyk shot - I like Olynk but don't get me wrong, I'm generally happy if he's taking the buzzer beater, but a lay up going to the rim on CJ, that would be the 1 of the 4 I'd say was a high ish %, probably over 50%

But obviously even if that is all true, we've still had quite a few mishaps and chances to win those games and have our own miscues that didn't help the cause, so it's not just all bad luck, but bad luck is definitely in play too.

We are also 5th in the league in Net Rating, and it's important to note that Net Rating is generally a better indicator of future performance than record.
