So again I pose the question, do you think Keldon Johnson Fetches 2 first round picks?

No thank you, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did it. NBA GMs are quick to fall in love with a guy

I read it in an article about the Celtics potentially going after Johnson (LINK I think that was before the Brogdon trade though.

They had traded a 1st for Derek White and said it might take 2 to get Johson or a 1st and a combination of players.

Are you serious?

Johnson is young and cheap. But he is about to get paid. So the Spurs want to move off him. But they aren't giving him away.

I don't see the fit with us. He is too good and will be too expensive to be coming off the bench here.

That link is bad bro.

Yeah hes a solid player but i just dont see SA getting 2 firsts for him. They definitely would get 2 out of the Pels

I agree here. There isn't a fit with us currently. We have a glut of wings/forwards. Could possibly use a defensive big, and possibly a ball handler (depending on their confidence in Dyson).

Is it? My bad. It worked for me. It's a fansided article. I can find others.

That's fair. But all 1sts aren't the same. I agree the Pelicans wouldn't do that. At least I hope they don't. They should get a solid return for him though.

Do you think he has more or less value than Brogdon?

Value wise 20mil a season vs 2.5mil is not even close lol

Brogdon if healthy is the better player imho. Johnson definitely improved every year and will get a solid contract but i doubt it will be 20 mil a season.

Very Valid question, but value wise i think you can get johnson for almost half the price once he gets his next contract. I still need to see more from Johnson before I can put him on the same level as Brogdon

If the thought is that you can get him to sign a 4 for 56mil contract then yes, he’s worth several 1sts. If you think he’s going to demand over 20mil a year, then no I don’t think he’s worth multiple 1sts.

Kind of like the Lonzo situation we had

I’m thinking a veteran on a short term contract (1-2 seasons) who brings the offense at this point if we are doing trades. We don’t have the minutes for a young guy to develop given who is already here.

In my mind, I see a possibility in San Antonio wanting prospects to dump some vets.

In particular, they have both Josh Richardson and Doug McBuckets under contract for about $12m each.

Kira and Jax for one of them clears a roster spot, doesn’t cost us any draft picks, and possibly brings in some small picks since McBuckets in particular has a total of $28m left across two seasons while Kira is a team option and Jax will be an RFA.

It is probably selling low but if we need the roster spot and want shooters with playoff experience, either of those two seem like a possibility. And with all the defensive guys we are putting out there, we should be able to cover up for these guys weaknesses if they are on the court.

I could be wrong, but I don't see them adding salary for the 23-24 season. IMO, if they make a trade it's either us sending out short term salary and receiving short term salary (Kira/Jax/Temple out, someone with 1 year coming in), or they are sending out DG and then they can take someone with a couple years left on a deal.

Should we look at him? A former 1st team all defense guard could be just what we need.

Still there is a healthy portion of the fanbase that thinks we need another guard.

My proposed deal is Kira and Jax for McBuckets and some seconds.

Kira and Jax are about salary matched to McBuckets for this season, it clears a roster spot, and we get some seconds to offset the 23-24 season of McBuckets’ salary, especially since Jax is likely the best player involved in the deal.

They can extend, trade, RFA, or do lines of coke with Kira and Jax for all I care. They are in a position to give them minutes and develop them so they can flip them for more assets. OTOH, it gives us a supporting piece for the playoffs and second unit while clearing a roster spot to sign EJ.

I would prefer to move Graham as part of this but it ain’t happening unless we add picks or the Spurs really value Kira and or Jax.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10041111-windhorst-cj-mccollum-pelicans-discussing-contract-extension-amid-nba-free-agency

quote:

The New Orleans Pelicans and guard CJ McCollum have reportedly had talks regarding a new contract.

Speaking Wednesday on Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst said he had heard that the Pels and McCollum have discussed a new deal even though he may not technically be eligible to sign one yet.

ESPN's Andrew Lopez chimed in, noting that McCollum may be able to sign a new contract as soon as August.

McCollum is still under the three-year, $100 million extension he signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2019, and his current deal runs through the 2023-24 season.

quote:

New Orleans acquired the 30-year-old McCollum last season in a blockbuster trade with the Blazers. The Pels sent a first-round pick, two second-round picks, Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tomas Satoransky and Didi Louzada to Portland for McCollum, Larry Nance Jr. and Tony Snell.

McCollum went on to enjoy the best production of his nine-year career in 26 games with the Pelicans, averaging 24.3 points, 5.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals, all of which would have been career highs over the course of a full season.

The former Lehigh star also made 2.7 three-pointers per game with the Pelicans and shot 49.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.

CJ isnt some all pro guard but his leadership was vital to the turn around. Let him retire here.
