I said near elite, in his role for that team. All of which is true. Favors was a net positive on a mediocre team who did his job as well or better than advertised. And they got him for nothing

don’t want him back but when he was here he was at minimum the 3rd best player on the team

Being a net positive on a bad team is not "near elite." This thread has really diverted into a pissing contest. The point being, my opinion is I would not have taken on an additional $7 million in cap for Favors. Listening to some of the discussion on NBA Today, they thought it was a bunch of nothing as well.

Who would have thought that in 2022, Derrick Favors would be a hot topic on the pels board.

You incorrectly labeled him lazy, a poor rebounder, and a poor attitude when here. Asking if others watched the Pels that year.

It is a bunch of nothing, as in $7 million isn’t much, but Favors will be there to mentor Smith. At least to start the season.

I didn't see that post. My apologies, but you're still glossing over the detail of his mother unexpectedly passing away.

I can only speak from personal experience, not to say that I know what's going on with everyone that loses a parent, but my dad had stage 4 lung cancer, we knew he was going to die for months, and it affected me for months on end after it happened. I would imagine losing your parent unexpectedly would be worse.

Solid deal. Wiggins took a bit less it looks like. I don't know how Poole got more than him.

After Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins extensions, the projected salary and luxury tax for the Golden State Warriors in the 2023-2024 season, per @BobbyMarks42: $483 million.

That's an insane number. The salary cap next season is estimated to be $134 million.

They will be spending almost four times the cap!

I thought it would be higher by now. Haven't they been in the tax for like 5 or 6 years in a row?

I think the repeater percentage caps out at a certain number of years.

Can’t keep paying $400m+ in payroll every season.

mark deeks:

In the 21 years since the luxury tax was created, it has been applicable in 19 seasons; in those 19 seasons, 28 NBA franchises have paid over $2.1 billion in payroll excess. Here is how much each franchise has paid in that span, and in how many different seasons they have paid it.

1) Golden State Warriors: $337,841,573 (5 years)
2) Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets: $297,855,872 (7 years)
3) New York Knicks: $248,542,987 (10 years)
4) Cleveland Cavaliers: $179,622,897 (7 years)
5) L.A. Lakers: $171,795,994 (11 years)

the only teams never to have paid the tax are the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets and the New Orleans hornets/pelicans

I thought it doubled every year in the penalty (it should). I'll have to look it up. It should be more punitive..

So what did each team get out of it, net of the players?
