really don't understand this boards love for Smart. He is going to make $13mil a year and he cannot shoot. 36% for his career, 30% from 3. In their playoff run last season he shot 33% and 22% from 3.

This board would turn on him by mid November watching him brick shot after shot.

Jrue is shooting 32% this year, 33% last year. Yeah we all hate him. He's shot around 33-34% in his last 4 years here. You can still be a good player while not being a great shooter, or even a good shooter from 3.

The type of player Smart is and the culture he can help build, is much more important than say bringing over Ingram and his much higher ceiling as a scorer.

Have you seen Ball shoot? And he will make about the same as Smart. Ball cannot even shoot FTs. Ball may equal Smart (or even be ahead of him in value) if he did not have the baggage of Lavar.

You do realize I said Smart has a career shooting % of 36% from the field right? Not 36% from 3.

Jrue is shooting 47%. Hasn't had a single season below 43%.

Yes, but I think everyone is in agreement that Ball sucks . Just commenting on how Smart's offense seems to get a pass for some reason when he's been just as bad if not worse. In his 5 year career (363 games, 3000+ FGA counting the playoffs) he has a 36% FG. Even as terrible as Lonzo is, he is at 38%. And at least Lonzo showed some improvement between years 1 and 2.

I don't think it's getting a pass I just think the skills that he does have will be very welcome. His lack of shooting will have consequences and may change who you bring back or target in FA. Can you keep Payton and Randle if you have Smart? Payton and Randle have both shot better than expected from 3 but they still kill the spacing which will be even worse if they're sharing the floor with Smart.

I still would rather Smart even if it forces you to go in a few different directions because I want this team to go in the direction of having a top 5 defense. Add a rim protector and Smart/Jrue/Tatum/Hustle/? is a switch everything nightmare for opposing offenses.

Someone tossed the idea out of DeAndre Jordan as a rim protector next to Randle.

Great defensive presence but I don’t know how much of an offensive liability he will be. And big men don’t tend to age well.

Geltzeiler was on sirius/xm this morning and said if the Pels were going to take the Lakers offer, it already would have happened. He said the Pels will take the Lakers offer...and shop it to all the other teams to get a deal they want.

I don’t know who that is. Is he the national media?

that doesn't change the fact that it was a good package and those are good players..

Those players who got spanked by the Pels' JV squad (with Lebron) are good players?

You sure about that?

That is like the 4th time somebody has brought that up. So I guess that game just settled it all. James must suck too, since he lost. Not worth anything anymore. They probably couldn't get a 1st back for him, right? Is that where we are going with that? Can't be just happy and proud of our guys for stepping up. Nope, the Lakers and all their players are just horrible cause they lost to our team..

Geltzeiler is known as hoopscritic on Twitter. He’s frequently on ESPN and a host on NBA radio. He frequently does shows with Joel Meyers.

You keep touting these guys as being valuable because they were once 1st round picks .. who gives a crap

If magic sucks at evaluating players, what does it matter where his players were picked

I believe the Pels will take the Lakers offer and then trade the all the parts except one.
Unless AD is willing to extend no team will take the high risk or rental. Raptors and Spurs trade forecasts what to expect in a non Laker trade

AD has already said he'd take a trade to 29 teams + 4 WNBA teams

DeMar Derozan is a pretty good return on a “rental” player.

While not elite he is certainly quality.

Put all the Laker players offered together and you still don’t get one DeRozan out of the bunch.

Holy shite you just discovered the formula for tanking in today's NBA!

Sign a WNBA player and play her. You'd lose every game and nobody would dare say a damned word as to why, much less do anything about it. The publicity would be entertaining if nothing else.

If it is Britney Griner, she probably has a bigger dick than some of the current players.

I mean the last Lakers off was 2 1sts, Hart, Ball, Pope, Ingram, Zubac, Kuzma and Pope.. that is an insane amount of value. Throw out Zubac and Pope, who will be FAs this offseason. That is 4 former 1st rounders (2 lottery picks) that are all under the age of 24. If you kept Kuzma and Hart, you could flip Ingram and Ball for picks or other players. Plus they would have taken Hill, opening up more cap space to absorb cast offs for more picks.

I get why they did it. But nobody else is offering us anything remotely close to that deal. That is basically 6 1st round picks, plus clearing like 30M in cap space. It was a great offer, but nobody here is ever going to admit it..

A bunch of players on a team that can't win without Lebron to a team that can't win with AD makes total sense.
