The New Orleans Pelicans were tipping off their first playoff game since 2015, and at Fat Harry’s on St. Charles Avenue, bouncer Bobby Sullivan surprisingly reached for a second box of blue wrist bands.

“At most, there’s sometimes a dozen people who want to watch the Pelicans in here,” Sullivan said. “This is a lot different.”

Patrons filled the Uptown bar before a 9:40 p.m. tipoff, most standing shoulder-to-shoulder trying to catch a view of the numerous TVs. They roared when the Pelicans built a 19-point second-half lead and moaned as the Trail Blazers pulled within a point in the final minute.

...“Over French Quarter Fest weekend I saw as much Pelicans gear in the bar in the two days I worked than I had seen combined in the pre-Boogie era of Pelicans basketball (prior to the middle of last season),” said Kevin Barrios, an employee at Port of Call restaurant and host of The Bird Calls. “The city is excited. It’s clearly engaged in this playoff run.”

Awesome

This is a very likeable team that plays the right way/is professional and has had a ton of resilience

I'm proud to be a fan regardless of the rest of the series

It's true. I'm the resident Pels fan in my friend group and my phone / @'s have been off the hook the past couple weeks.

Erryboddy wanna know where we watching the game and who's using the playoff tix.

Errybody love the Pels now. I love errybody.

The people in Louisiana needed reason to get excited for the team. It's not that we didn't like the Pelicans, but winning is what brings the crowd and passion to life.

I guess this is a good place to ask what the best spot in the city is to watch the games. I have tickets to the game Thursday but I have a bunch of friends who wanted to find a watch party for Saturday.

Anyone know when the team will fly back to NOLA? I'd be curious to know if anyone shows up at the airport to support them like we do the Saints when they fly back. That would be huge for the team to see the support.

Mid City Yacht Club - laid back, great outdoor space, tons of tv's..a little pricey for good beers but a solid choice nonetheless.

Bayou Beer Garden..is what it is, can get crowded.

American Sports Saloon has the official watch parties. Never been, can't comment.

I don't really go uptown often enough to have a go to spot. Tchoup Yard for the younger frat type crowd and 45 Tchoup for the older Nola bar rat crowd.

At 45 Tchoup you never know if bar rats will outnumber actual rats

Of course, as always, my “go to” place is at the corner of Magazine and Eigth. Plus they’re a client!

Lafayette has been lacking when it comes to Pels gear and Pels fans. I have been seeing more and more people wearing shirts and stores like Dicks actually having some stuff. I watched the game at a bar Saturday night (not downtown), and there were quite a few in there really into it, even some dude that I am 95% sure was Gandalf.

I watched the game with a few friends at Legends South Saturday night. We considered Taproom, but I thought it might be packed with non-fans and may be too crowded. I don't usually go at peak times, but that's where I typically watch Saints games.

Earlier Saturday I saw a guy sporting an AD jersey at the bowling alley

I’m thinking about trying Fat Harry’s tonight. Hopefully there will be a crowd. Otherwise I’ll probably reroute to the strip on Magazine.
