The Athletic piles on some more: The Pelicans are the most likely team to move.

Sources consistently mention the Pelicans as the most likely franchise to seek relocation in the coming decade, @johnhollinger writes.
The team is only committed to its lease in New Orleans through 2024.
How could that impact its offseason?
Now we know there are some "sources" with a vested interest in us failing with Zion.

These folks have no shame.

It is objectively false. Gayle Benson will never sell or move this team as long as she is alive. They are even negotiating a new lease and improvements to the Arena right now.
Hollinger is and has always been trash.

For the Love of God, whoever has the fricking Monkey's Paw, put it down
It backfired when you wanted Bledsoe to stop playing with the starters, and all hell broke lose after you got SVG fired. I don't think we can handle any more wishes.

The most likely outcome has always been the owners approving expansion franchises in Seattle and Las Vegas. The expansion fees dwarf any type of relocation fee and would be nearly enough to make up for the money they lost during the pandemic.
Once that happens in the next few years and the shiny object of Seattle is off the table, I expect we don't hear this garbage for a while.

quote:Agree. This seems to be that the media is carpet bombing Griffin and the Pelicans in an effort to get Zion to a larger market. This comment by Hollinger is obviously intentionally planted.

If anything this just proves the other stories are BS.

Hollinger, though. He's CONSTANTLY shitted on New Orleans since he left the Grizzlies.
Even in little snarky shite from him like this, you can see it,
quote:
"losing money while finishing in the lottery has not been an enjoyable side venture to the main business of running the Saints."

He is constantly shitting on us. He does it all the time in his podcast.
For whatever reason, he just despises this franchise.

Crazy they say this, when the new owners of the Timberwolves have already said they want to move that team to Seattle

I think it’s my fault. The Basketball Gods seem to be cool with jokes about AD being secretly made of dildos, but apparently hate political jokes outside of the Poliboard too.

I mean yeah. There is literally a team that changed ownership this offseason with no connection to the city the team is in, with sources flat out saying they want to move the team.
But the team with Gayle Benson as owner is more likely to move.

Clickbait BUT until lease extension is agreed upon it's probably at least accurate as "most likely team."
Not that the Kings and Warriors were likely to move, but those stadium situations resolving removed them from the conversation. This just needs to be viewed in context of "most likely among exceedingly unlikely moves," and also in context of piling on.
ETA: NBA will probably see expansion before any team moves. Expansion generates more money for owners and a move just reshuffles deck chairs without other owners profiting.

Gayle Benson had a message Monday (March 25) for anyone who thinks the New Orleans Pelicans are a candidate to be sold or relocate.
“There is no way that I am going to sell that team -- ever,” Benson said during a press luncheon with local reporters at the NFL owners annual spring meeting.
her saying it is a good start.
