BI is our small ball 4. When Zion returns, and is not on a minutes restriction, how many available minutes will we have at the 4? I realize that he’ll be limited the rest of the year. Thinking long term. Thx.

If you think its a 3/4 that we need, Marcus Morris seems like the logical fit to me.
He wouldn't cost that much as he's on his last year of deal, he's having a career year from 3 (46.9%) on nearly 6 attempts a game, and I think he will also bring a little attitude that this team could use.

Long term BI is our 3..
If we go small ball you may be looking at 4-5 minutes a game.
Right now our biggest weakness is at the 4 with Zion out, but even when he returns it will still be our biggest weakness because we have nobody to back him up.
This season I believe there will be 23-28 minutes available at the 4 once Zion starts playing.
BI will take about 5 of those, because he will then be playing his natural 3 position.
We've also been playing Hart some at the 4 where he's done ok, but hes overmatched, he could go back to his natural 2/3 spot.
One thing I'm not worried about is minutes, because a good 3/4 guy will take a few minutes off BI also, who we've been playing 38-40 mins a night. Same with Lonzo and Jrue

What we need next year is a backup SF, a real SF not Josh Hart even though i love him, and a backup PF, like Morris.
Had Melli worked out, we'd be alright, but as i was cautious about when everyone else just assumed he was the next Niko, and kept saying we were thin down low and needed another big, he has not worked out.
Imagine where we'd be right now if Jaxson was a bust.

I think that BI is as pure of a SF as there is in existence. He can play PF in situations when other teams go small, but when we play teams like Toronto or the Lakers, there's just no way that he can physically handle guys like Siakam and AD. On the other hand, I'm not sure that he's quick enough to keep up with the better SGs in the league. I just think that he's a SF and only a SF (unless he really bulks up in the offseason).
And while a lot of people (myself included) think that Zion ultimately becomes a center, and that center is his best position in the long term, Griffin doesn't want him spending much time there early in his career and taking the extra pounding that comes with the position -- especially this season.
[Edit] The other reason that I don't like Ingram at PF is that he then is forced to constantly box out to get defensive rebounds instead of running on the break and looking for early points in transition. I really like Ingram in transition, and playing PF hinders that.

We'd be arguing over ranking the top 3 picks in the draft. Jaxson saved the season.

Another option I like as a backup SF/PF is Jerami Grant. He's under contract through next year.
I think the Nuggets would deal him with Porter Jr's minutes expected to increase down the stretch.
Would have to bring in a 3rd team like the Wizards to make it work, but in this scenario Nuggets get some serious shooting and floor spacing off the bench with Moore and Bertans.
Wizards get a couple young players in Beasley and Hernangomez.
Trade

I keep seeing Jerami Grant mentioned as a trade target, but my understanding is that the Nuggets aren’t interested in moving him, especially in the middle of the year. They already invested a 1st to get him and want to keep him for next year to help replace Millsap.

The Indiana Pacers continue to resist trade calls on Myles Turner. The future of Turner and Domantas Sabonis with the Pacers has been an ongoing question due to their overlapping skill-sets. The Pacers want to see how the team plays once Victor Oladipo returns at the very least.

They gonna move somebody in the offseason

Yeah, but the Pacers with Oladipo are a dangerous team that could make a deep playoff run this year.

The Hawks are reportedly interested in Pistons center Andre Drummond.
Sam Amick of USA Today:
the Hawks, per a second source, could have landed Drummond already if they were willing to include a first-round pick in the deal. Presumably, the deal would have also included an expiring contract or two – Chandler Parson’s, Evan Turner‘s/Alex Len‘s or Allen Crabbe‘s/Alex Len’s – make salaries match.
This is a great gauge of Drummond’s trade value. Other teams are also interested in the center.

They should throw Brooklyn's pick in there as lottery protected and get it done
Posted on 1/10/20 at 4:17 pm to cgrand
that would be a nice move for the Hawks, and further illustrates that Detroit is blowing it up this year and looking for future assets.

We need another 3/4 desperately..
That's the weakest part of this team
Bjelica for Miller and two seconds would be a nice move. He’d fit really well with the Pels. He’s a plus defender and a very good spacer for his position. He’s also relatively cheap for next year.

Exactly my thoughts Fox...we need a stretch four in this offense...I think he's a perfect fit...Bertans would be gold but also extremely unlikely
Posted on 1/13/20 at 12:29 pm to NOFOX
I'd like to get Bjelica, but why is Sacramento looking to unload him, same with Bogdonavich?
Dedmon is the one that wants out.
what i see from that list is that Detroit, Orlando, and possibly San Antonio are ready to blow it up and do something different.
I still like the idea of Aaron Gordon on this team with Zion.
I also like the idea of having Jrue/Ingram/DeRozan in the lineup. You'd think we'd live at the free throw line with those 3, assuming the refs can be fair. I would take it the Spurs would want picks, not players.
