Right.

Although if our previous search is any indication, Griffin is going to take his time. He took 2 fricking months and hired Van Gundy.

Now...a lot of the same candidates are going to be in play so it should not be anywhere near as methodical. Its possible it moves really quickly after this round of playoffs.

But what if the Clippers advance and he wants to interview Cassell? Or Ime Udoka with the Nets?

Then we might be sitting here awhile.

Please God not Spoon. I truly don’t know if I can handle “the first female head coach” with some shitty sobby backstory every single time we play.

What about that over “will the Pelicans do enough to keep Zion there?!?!$!?!7” from every outlet.

I have no idea about her Xs and Os, but, her relationships and intangibles will probably be one of the highest of anyone we interview.

Do not underestimate the good will hiring the first female coach would bring from the media. I’m not saying I want that to the only reason we do it, but, it would help change the constant tired narrative that Nola can never do anything to keep a star happy.

Griff is one season away from getting canned as well. The man has been a failure here.

As opposed to all of our previous success?

It also isn't going to happen. Griffin pretty much laughed when it was brought up in his PC before going political with his answer.

If the only thing NOLA can do to keep a star happy is hire a grossly under qualified head coach because we would get a pat on the back from NBA bloggers, then just move the frickin team to Seattle

Right, I have no idea why people are still wasting time discussing her as a HC candidate, it's clear that she isn't.

Also, I don't think there is any way that the hire is an older re-tread HC (Bud, Atkinson, etc...). I think it's going to be someone who is young, and more relatable to the players.

Christian Clark immediately came out with an article talking about why she is the most deserving. MM did his typical crap and said he'd be shocked if it wasnt her or Lee.

Rod Walker on the Nola advocate did the same thing. Had the article up right after the firing outlining the reasons she should get the job. One reason was that she’s a winner.

Uhhhh, a winner? She kinda ran the LA Tech program into the ground. They got progressively worse every year and had losing seasons at the end before she was fired. One of the top programs in the country went downhill fast under her watch and that’s who they think should be running a professional franchise. How do these people have jobs???

I’m sure these same people think Kamala was the best VP candidate for the same reasons…..

One thing you have to understand about the basketball media is they tend to overrate and defend coaches that treat them like real people and talk to them outside of standard press availability. Combine that with a lack of useful knowledge about alternative candidates and it's easy to see why so many jumped on the TSpoon band wagon.

Kevin Arnovitz referred to Charles Lee as a "Five Tool Coach". Weatherspoon has shown us one tool, connecting with players. That's not to say she doesn't have other tools, but we only know about one so the anointing her as head coach has just been silly.

She's connected well enough with the players that you'd want to investigate and see if she did have other tools, but Griff being so dismissive of the idea says her other tools aren't where you'd want them to be.

I mean they’re basically a few steps above posting on a message board if we’re being honest.

Fletcher claiming "sources":

quote:

Fletcher Mackel
@FletcherWDSU
·

NBA source: “I’d be surprised if {Bucks assistant} Charles Lee isn’t Pelicans head coach.”

Says Lee is great but wonders if NOLA right fit since it would be his first time running a team w/intense pressure to win now.

Says Lee would have been perfect last year instead of SVG.

Should we have a new thread for coaching rumors?

Not going to lie. I thought about starting like 20 threads this morning about minute details.

New thread: Who should get the 11th spot in the "rotation"...do we go with Wenyen Gabriel or do we use one of our 2nds?

New thread: Which one of our 2nds should we use on the 11th spot in the rotation?

bunchies of fun threads don't bother me. they are very humorous. i find comfort in always knowing that bunchies of fun knows what's best of when to segregate tangent threads (when's he's the one tangenting) and when not to tangent information into new threads (when he's not the one tangenting).

Ah man! If Fletch reports it’s Lee then chances are it’s not going to Lee.

Very true. He reported with sources that 5 difference coaches were going to be the HC and got 0 of them right last year.
