He's a true SF. He can play small ball 4 though which is very useful.
Posted on 7/1/16 at 6:48 pm to Fun Bunch
Can he guard the perimeter?

I like to be optimistic, but god damn that's a lot of money to pay a backup SF/borderline starter. But its atleast an attempt to be better. Better than James Posey signing atleast

Again, if Hill was at 4-6 percent of the cap like Bazemore and Carroll were, I would have liked it. I would not argue with that one bit.
If you would have asked me in the comments how much I would pay for him, I would have said 4-5 mil per. If you would have said, "How about 4/48," I would have died laughing

This is really the state the organization is in where we have to play borderline bench players 52 million to come here. Dell may be the worse negotiator ever.

Do you know if anyone else was seriously pursuing him? I think, relative to other contracts being signed, it does seem about $2-3m/yr high. But you bring up Bazemore/Carroll signings and % of cap. I suspect that there are more teams this season having to spend money to get to the cap floor. Plus we have a shitty organization/small market tax to worry about.
My only concern is (going back to the other suitors question), is if we were mostly bidding against ourselves. That seemed to be the case with Asik, when there didn't appear to be many other fits for him to drive the price up.

likely just them and the pacers
I don't remember seeing him linked to any others but you never know
past evidence suggests that those were the only two though and the pacers had a number they weren't going over

Look at all the other guys I listed on that article- you think even one of those guys makes 4 million next year?
If anything, you linking that article just proves my point. Thanks

And after putting some thought into the signing:
1) With the direction the franchise has been heading, we needed to take a bit of a gamble.
2) If Hill DOES become a Bazemore/Crowder type player in 16/17, then we're golden. If we were about to run a Jrue, QPon, Crowder, AD, Asik lineup with Hield off the bench, I think people would be fairly excited about our team next year. We could easily have that same lineup for 2-4 more years. And if it does work out and we sneak into the playoffs next offseason, then we'll at least get meetings from the likes of the Haywards and Gallos and Ibakas of the league.
3) If Hill DOESN'T work out, then he won't really move the needle for a team that I was expecting to win between 25 (if injuries are terrible again) and 40 (good injury luck) games next season. Maybe it accelerates AD's departure by a year. Sucks, but whatever.

Don't let the projections for the 2018-19 cap going down fool you.
The players are for sure going to force their option to renegotiate the CBA and revenue sharing in 2017. This Hill deal could realistically end up being only 10% of our cap in 2018-19. These deals are about free cap now, but the unknown still looms... it could go even bigger with a new CBA. They renegotiate the TV deal sometime this season, after the biggest finals in AGES.
We will stay under the cap going into the season by signing a Moore or Johnson at SG for around $8-9mm per, then have Reke's expiring and our 1st to trade to a team that wants a redo on a contract they just gave.... gets us another player under contract longer term before we max Jrue.

Hard worker. Young. Athletic. Plays D. Stuck behind PG13.
He's making Asik money. No idea why anyone is bitching given our recent history.

I think we paid to much but the worst contract given so far is a joke. The lakers paid a center 16 mil per that played 6 minutes in the finals
Posted on 7/1/16 at 7:48 pm to JabarkusRussell
He clearly is when you are talking past production vs salary. There is no debate about that IMO. You are banking on potential as a franchise who needs to take a wild swing and maybe hitting a double or triple, as opposed to settling for a single. That's the argument, at least
Posted on 7/1/16 at 7:50 pm to JabarkusRussell
If you would trade the Hill deal for Turner or Mozgov you've lost your fricking mind.
Posted on 7/1/16 at 7:51 pm to Crewz
Im starting to agree with crewz. Why would Davis stay here, team hasn't put anybody around him to contend
Posted on 7/1/16 at 7:52 pm to Crewz
So you don't think he can become a 3 & D stud anymore?
