My money is on Pelinka getting played because he didn’t know the rules.

Kind of like Vlade Divac trading away a first to get rid of Nik Stauskas because neither he nor anyone in the King front office realized they could stretch waive a player.

If this is true, this is an enormous f up by the Lakers.

The clearest way this trade works out for Lakers in the end is if they pull Kawhi or Kyrie alongside AD because it would damn near guarantee the picks don’t turn into anything. Without max cap space, that’s unlikely.

here is the math
quote:

If executed 7/6, LAL can get $27.7M cap room if AD waives $4.1M trade bonus; enough for 25% max (e.g. DLo).

If executed after 7/30, LAL can get $32.5M cap room (and AD could keep his bonus); 30% max range (e.g., Kemba, Kawhi, etc).

if Davis doesn’t waive his bonus they are fricked this year
remember this is a three year gamble
lebrony has 3 years left and Davis will do a 2+1 extension

I’m sure Davis will waive his bonus because Rich Paul will be convincing him he can get enough endorsements to cover the difference.

Without mentioning that contract money is 100% AD’s while endorsement money gives a huge cut to Klutch.

Early reports are Davis will NOT waive his kicker.

The only way this still works for the Lakers is if Kemba takes less than the max to go there. He’s already said he’d take less than the max to stay in Charlotte.

he will have to waive it, there’s no other option
quote:

With the latest report from Woj that the Lakers and Pelicans will complete their deal as soon as they are able on 7/6, that means the Lakers will have:
-$23.7M w/ full AD trade bonus
-$27.7M if AD waives trade bonus
Also means #4 should play in Summer League, important to Pels!

How does this impact the Pels cap space?

pels have right at 20MM if they keep #4
if they move hill with 4 they’ll have 30
if they move Moore and hill they’ll have 40

round numbers

the trade date won’t affect that either way

Thanks. Does the trade date affect their cap space at all?

I don’t think so
it only affects whether the lakers have to use 4 salary to match

for the pels it doesn’t change much other than having 4 if they keep in SL.
the affect on the lakers could be massive

it’s a big deal

Yes, they have 23.7 if AD doesn’t waive trade kicker, around 28 if he does. If it was executed on the 30th, I think they have like 30ish mil in space.

These are estimates.

Kemba would have to turn down the super Max and then take a less than max offer to leave Charlotte

if he goes to the lakers he’d be giving up almost 100MM vs the supermax in CHA
that seems unlikely

Highly doubt kawhi would go there

Kyrie is probably a nets lock

What else is there jimmy?

But does Jordan offer him the full Supermax for a team which can’t reach the playoffs?
