Spirit is definitely WNBA-esque.

Soul is bordeline so, I guess if you want to connect it with female soul singers.

I think it could work for an NBA team though, quite well, if done right.

I still like Krewe the best.

I'm waiting to see alternative suggestions though.

i mean krewe is ok, but i dont think its a pro level type mascot.

What do you put on the jerseys? What is the logo? A Mardi Gras float? How do you brand that nationally? or even regionally? how do you sell that to the large urban culture of the NBA?

and Soul is just horrible.

I think Krewe has a lot of potential. Mascot one would expect to be something Mardi Gras related...a jester perhaps, but you could do almost anything associated with the region. You could do a fricking crawfish for all I care.

I think the name nationally would be met with initial "What the frick?", but I think it would catch on very quickly with yutes. I think it would be cool.

But let's hear your alternative suggestion besides Hornets, Krewe, etc.

I think those are pretty good arugments against Krewe. Look at the Thunder. They have that horrible logo and really no image. That is a big thing to avoid.

Now, when everyone is saying Krewe. Are we the New Orleans Krewe or is it Krewe of New Orleans. I just think the latter is a lot better.

for those who haven't read the actual article...it's very good. it's about a lot more than rebranding.

I haven't really thought about it. Off the top of my head it could see it being something like "Gators" or some type of animal native to the region, either land or water. If not an animal or creature, something relative to water. Steamboats, the MS river, fishing/hunting. Like I said i haven't really thought about it.

Then how come I have one? Hmmm. Odd.

Anyway, Mardi Gras is only a couple of weeks of the year, pick something that represents the city year round.

It's an intentionally misspelled word, today's youth eats that up. And you probably can't go with a float for the mascot. If the team gets good enough to become popular I'd imagine Krewe will take on the meaning of an eXtreme version of the word crew, not a bunch of privileged people that go to masked balls. It will likely conjure up different images in people's heads nationally vs. locally.
