How do we get Durant, Davis and Cousins?

Trade everyone for Cousins this year. Next year dump who's left to sign Durant to a deal like LeBron just got with a 1 year player option. When the cap escalates to $108 sign KD long term and hope you have enough cap space left for role players.

Cole
QPon
KD
AD
Cousins

Would you really need a better back court? Just run P&R with your 3 stars.

But we barely had Jrue/good Ryno last season. We'd be practically be bringing back most of our post ASB team with Boogie instead of Asik + an MLE guy.

Also, that mostly Jrueless team finished 2nd in 3pt defense.

The 3 stars system has shown us that someone (usually 2 guys) have to sacrifice shots. I don't know if you can get any of those guys to become Bosh-like role players.

I will stick to my Davis and KD dream and not get too greedy

While neither is likely, I think KD is actually more possible than Cousins.

Probably. If it somehow happened, this would be a scary, scary team.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work. We've never seen a combo like that in the NBA in 30+ years. So maybe it could work and it'd be the perfect antidote to today's NBA strategies. On the other hand, great/elite perimeter play has been the key to the last several NBA champions. Can't disregard that.

huh?

Spurs- Admiral/Duncan
Lakers- Gasol/Bynum

It's not rare because it doesnt work. It's rare because its hard to get 2 studs next to one another. Elite perimeter players are more accessible, which is why that has been the norm.

We wouldn't have to trade anything for KD. He's a FA next year. We can clear enough fairly easily. He would just need to choose.

Cousins we would need to trade, which means we need attractive assets. Which we don't have.

Obviously they were nasty once they got Duncan in the draft, but at the time when the Spurs were Duncan, Robinson + role player fillers they won one championship (awesome) and not much else. They were very very good, but they didn't terrorize the NBA even close to the level that Duncan+Manu+Parker did.

There was another guy on this team...can't remember who but I seem to remember that there was a pretty decent back court player on this team.

Makes sense. How would we even afford him next year though? I'm guessing we'd have to give up either Reke/EG/Ryno/Jrue for that to happen?

EG and Ryno are expiring. It depends on how we structure deals this year.

McNamara has an article on BSS on how to achieve it.

Kobe never won anything without elite big men. Id say it's sort of relevant when you question whether the most talented PF and C in the NBA would win games if they played together. .

And none of those big men won anything without an MVP caliber back court player...
