NBA ratings have declined significantly over the past decade. The playin games have been good for the league though.

That's a relative thing as there are now a million different other things to watch or do online. The true test will be the next TV contract which is up for renewal in 2024-25. As it stands right now live sports have a very high value and the league is expecting to get triple the landmark deal it's on now.

quote:

Early thinking within league circles suggests the NBA will seek a $75 billion multiyear rights package, up from its current $24 billion deal, which pays $2.6 billion per year.

Maybe there aren't as many casual fans paying attention, because as I mentioned there are a million other things to do with your time these days, but the league appears to be healthier than ever.

America isn’t the only country on the planet, despite what many Americans think.

The NBA is the biggest brand in a sport that depending on the metric, is becoming the second biggest sport in the world.

And ratings have as much to do with the fact that followers are younger and therefore accessing games in non-traditional ways. If you want evidence literally show up to any game thread during the season and see how half or more of the people are accessing games through streams. Legal or otherwise. Which is why rumors are abound the league is planning on taking control of distribution and looking to streaming services for their next contract. They know many are not consuming their product in the traditional way, and they are wanting to adjust to re-capture it.

But dying? Nah.

The NBA needs to pull his agents license.

First off, his comments are bullshite, before the Cousins injury the team was about to give him a max extension, and most definitely would have been going into the tax to keep that team together.

Secondly, no agent nore player should ever be allowed to dictate where they will/will not be traded to unless they have a NTC.

Even after the injury, we still offered a bigger contract than anyone else. The Pelicans being cheap is false. Maybe it was too little, too late but everything done with the hiring of Griffin shows we are willing to spend.

Him referring to the Lakers as "Us" and saying he has 6 people on the team should worry the league. It shows he will steer his clients towards one team. If I was thinking about signing with him, that would turn me off because it shows his priority is to LeBron and Lebron's success. Something needs to be done to help small markets but I honestly don't know what. All I do know is the Lakers weren't better run than the Pelicans 3 years ago. Their market is 100% responsible for their success.

Klutch has always been the deciding factor for me in moving on from Ball. I could go either way but Klutch is such a huge headache and negative cancer, I'd move on.

This all points to what a weak commissioner Adam Silver is. I noticed the sideline dress codes are getting lax
now. Covid influenced but it is getting out of hand.

We know there will never be a hard cap, but that would make the league great for the viewer. Right now you have these super teams and their load management garbage cheating fans from seeing the stars.

I think the league is counting on the China money coming in to break the free fall of ratings. The NBA is a tough watch at times and it could be an awesome entertainment product with some changes.

frick the nba for not fining the tampering agencies, teams.

They could fix the problem real quick and ban agencies that pull this crap. A one or two year ban will fix the problem quickly.

I blame the commissioner for not having balls. The league is suffering as a result.

What??? If anything the dress code is pointless now since players have turned their attire into a weird fashion show.

And this is precisely why we should become a CAA team. Surround Zion with the top CAA talent and collude like a mother fricker.

How does the NBA allow guys like this to maintain their ability to be agents? Why would teams like the Pels ever deal with clients of this agency?

I don’t understand how the NBA allow him to essentially be a proxy for Lebron.

That made me sick. Rich Paul is a cancer to the NBA. Oh look he’s a racist a-hole too.

White American athletes don’t want a black agent

Think it’s more white athletes have a bit more brains in choosing an agency not led by a guy that was selling shirts out of his truck and a player/agent that thinks he’s some philosopher brainiac but has never step foot on a college campus and its questionable how valid his high school diploma is.....

You can get pissed at Paul all you want, but, he’s just acting in his/Lebanon’s best interests.

It needs to be directed towards the league for letting it happen so easily.

You just made my point. The common fan does not want a weird fashion show. That's what David Stern understood when he instituted a suit-on-the-sideline rule back in the day. I recall some bitching and moaning and even some racial stuff thrown around, but the players took the opportunity to show off a fine, stylish suit game.
