So, continuing the Game 1 Overreactions...

What are your thoughts now on this much rumored deal?

We saw how much of a shitshow we are at Center.

On the other hand, we also saw how vital Ryan Anderson is to our 2nd unit and how much we need his offense. We win that game with him. Can't say for sure we win it with Asik, as we actually out-rebounded the Pacers and Hibbert didn't have a great game.

So, what are your thoughts now? Still want the trade? Still against it?

I don't understand what a trade would do to Asik's cap hit for next year. If you look at the salary, it shows 15m for next season. But I think it is/was spread out for Houston. That trade would put the team way into the tax territory and I don't think the team would go for that. Especially for a player like him..

His cap hit is 8 million but we pay him 15 in actual dollars. If I remember correctly.

Damn you on a mission today bunch, lol. But I would welcome it, but it would make our 2nd unit weaker though.

The cap ramifications are the same even if he's traded. It would be $8.3M on the cap sheet this year and next, but they'd pay him $20M over that same time.

The cap hit stays at $8M. The $7M isn't monopoly money, though.

Maybe to you it isn't, but it is to my boy Tommy B and myself.

I didn't like it then, and I don't think I like it now.

I'll really know when we see Anderson on the court with this team.

The Rockets don't want some injured scrub.

Was so so before, now I think it's obvious how much Ryan means to the 2nd unit

If we could just find someone competent to start at C (someone like Robin, Gray, etc) it would go a long way. Smiht could slide into the 2nd unit and we should have plenty of scoring with him, Reke, Ryan, Roberts.

I loved how the center combo played against the biggest team we'll see all year. We just were lacking at the 4 without Ryno since AD can't play 48 minutes. The Pels need one more swing 4/5 as the 5th guy since Lance Thomas and Onuaku don't cut it. Withey won't play anytime soon, so getting a cheap vet would be nice (see other thread).

Depending on the timing of the trade, it doesn't have to be $7M. If they made a deal today, we'd be trading Anderson's $16M remaining for Asik's $20M. If they waited until after the season, the difference would be $7M.

I'm more worried about solidifying a starting 5 before we worry about having bench options

That said, Morrow will prove to be a nice 3 point option off the bench. Evans will be 100%. Stiemsma and Withey can assume backup center roles and Smith can be your "strecth four" (midrange version) and can still defend 4s effectively

We need to log at least a quarter of the season before we start panicking though
