I don't post much, but I am friends with someone in the Pelicans organization. So I just wanted to pass along the news.

I was told this morning that there would be a press conference later this week to weekend. As of now Zions team wants him to comeback this season for the playoff push although the Pelicans are against it and would rather him sit out until next year. As of now no decision has been made and the two sides are still communicating.

Take it for what it's worth, just wanted to pass along.

We heard on the broadcast last night that the team was going to try one more ramp up. I don't think there's a decision to be "made" by anyone. The ramp up will either work or he'll have pain and swelling and get shut down again.

Also from the broadcast last night they talked about Jose like he's already been upgraded from a 2 way to a minimum deal. Most of us assume this will happen the last day of the season, but whoever was calling the game treated it like something that's already happened.

We know the national broadcast guys seem to get good access before the games and have often outed new information.

I believe you.

Also, you didn't really say much we haven't heard, since we have been hearing about the split between the two sides, and this also doesn't make sense:

What is there a PC for if no decision has been made?

I believe you have a friend in the org, but it sounds like old information.

Need to control the narrative.. Some major news outlets were running the "Pels are winning and ZION IS ALMOST BACK!" stories this week

THat might not be the case...

If true, why can't we get on the same page as Zion's camp.... like ever.

If Zion is healthy and he wants to come back we 100% have to do it. As much as he has screwed us the past few months, we have to keep him happy at all cost.

One of the big problems in the initial post is that the “Zion’s team” he is referring to isn’t the Pelicans who he is actually employed by & plays for. The poster is referring to what is most likely his Agent, his marketing agency & his step father.

I’m so glad we held out AD for all of those games so he could win a championship for the Lakers. WTH are we saving Zion for if not the Pelicans in the playoffs. He’s leaving in four years tops almost no matter what you do as a franchise. Play him.

They aren't "saving" Zion, he's got a broken foot that hasn't fully healed yet.

I’m saying this on the assumption he is healed (adequately at least) and he is wanting to play as implied.

It's hard to believe anyone about Zion. We've heard that Zion wants to sit out and we want him to play, we've heard that we've tried to trade him, and now this rumor is saying Zion wants to play but we don't want him playing??? This is more confusing than trying to watch an episode of Lost.

From the sound of it, I'd say the assumption is not a safe one. There appears to be real concern that him playing on it could cause further long term damage. That being said, at some point you can't save him from himself if he's bound and determined to play on it and will hold it against you anyway. If he wants to play, at some point you just have to let him play on it and assume the risk on his own.

This fits the narrative that Zion wanted to come back sooner and play longer from his first injury and the team came up with the bursts plan.

I want to pelieve

At this point, I say if Zion and his camp say he is ready to play - you play him. If he reinjures himself, at least its on him at that point and he can't be mad at the Pels for anything.

A friend of a friend is tied into the Pels/Saints organization. He said the same thing a couple days ago...there would be a press conference on Thursday. Then he quickly said it changed to the weekend.

I'm not vouching for the info (not that I have any cred anyway) but wanted to say I heard a similar story. The interesting part was he said one of the main points of the press conference is Zion taking some level of accountability for where we are. Again...no idea how accurate but I found it interesting.
