Pels Offseason

For all the Board GMs who are never wrong. Put together an offseason that’ll make you feel great about this upcoming season

I’m not sure there’s much we can do that would make me feel great about the upcoming season. Offloading players for multiple future 1sts would make me feel a little better about the future, but that wouldn’t help for the upcoming season

Big trades can still happen for star players. It'll be interesting to see if the Pels can get something for Trey and Herb. Too much smoke around Trey tbh

An offseason that would make ME happy would be to trade Trey, Herb, Zion and Dejounte for all the value you can get. Pick a direction and lean all the way into it. My biggest complaint with this franchise is that they’re always riding the fence. Going into this year with Zion on this roster blocking Queen is fricking insane. Why did you give up so much for Queen just to block his playing time by keeping Zion?
Pick a direction, go with a youth movement, give Fears and Queen all the minutes so they can take their lumps and you can figure out if they are prospects worth building around.
That would be so much more enjoyable than watching this team pathetically chase the play in and still probably miss it

The narrative around this team is not flattering. A guy like Dumars is quite accomplished and may not care what is being said. But that can't be ignored in a business that has to sell a product to the public. With that said, I am genuinely interested in what changes may occur in the offseason. If no changes are made and the lineup remains what it is, that will be a tough sell. At a minimum, a rim protector and a shooter have to be considered.

Anything that gets fat arse out-of-town.

We are well over the cap, and Free Agency is no longer a real thing anymore in the NBA under the CBA, everything happens by trades.
Anything we are going to do would need to happen via trade.
So unless we are moving Poole, Hawkins (who both have no value), Dejounte (who may have some), or Trey and Herb (who have good value but are signaling a rebuild)...
We aren't doing much.

If we plan to compete and run it back then we 100% are looking into trading pick assets with the $49mil of Poole/ Hawk/ Looney.

I have no confidence on this organization or it's management so I expect nothing this season different than what we have seen for the last few years.
the only feelings I can muster for the Pelicans franchise is apathy and indifference.
I am what they made me.

So assuming we offload Poole & Hawkins for whatever, and make other minor moves that fill out the roster, but that don't move the needle, we will have the team as currently constructed & a focus on defense with the new coach.
If you have Murray from day 1, and last years rookies and Missi keep improving (and are say 10-15% better players than last year?), what does that look like in wins and losses?
I would think healthy Murray and no Willie from day 1 adds 5-7 wins to last years total. So that gets you up to ±32 wins. Do improved rooks and Missi, a little continuity of these guys playing together, and better defense get you to ±.500? I would think that is the expectation, barring a Murphy for Jalen Brown type trade.

My thing with the “picking a direction” opinion is that are Zion and Trey not 25 and 26. Fears and Queen will be 20 and 21 this upcoming year. Just because of their age doesn’t mean they can’t contribute to winning basketball. Like a VJ edgecombe with 30 plus year old vets like embiid and pg. Or a kon Knueppel contributed to a Hornets play-in team. A lot of this offseason might be moves like a Poole for a Suggs (expiring for Mosley player while the magic clear minutes for Anthony Black and add more shooting). And a Isaiah Stewart.

As I said, UNLESS WE ARE MOVING...
So there is no other option than to move some combination of those guys.
We are going to do something. I can't see a world without some player movement.

Year 3 Missi, Year 2 Fears/ Queen, Full season with Murray, full offseason with Murray, Z, etcc playing together.
We should realistically improve closer to 25% with the things above. And that excludes Murray getting back to his all star level and Z/ Trey maybe getting closer to their potential. Also excludes other teams taking a drop off and not adding any additional value.
Add a starting C + bench SG and you increase the % greatly. Not only do the syarters get better but you would now have a good SG and Missi off the bench.
A real C and Missi vs bench players is +5-10wins by itself IMO.

Ah the moment when people are talking themselves into a team that has won like 47 games in two years

Wonder what the pistons did to have such a drastic turnaround

They tanked hard, something we refuse to do.
They drafted difference makers (and had some bad ones)
They fired the guy we hired, for a guy that worked for us
The guy that worked for us made moves that the guy we hired didn’t that put them into a spot to where they started winning
I hope this helps
