Something like that. I did a test trade on one of the better trade machines and was able to get a $5 player in while sending those two out.

So we realistically may be able to make that move and still add both Ryan and Matkovich.

quote:Trading Liddell and Keller for Richards and then adding Matkovich would leave us about $500k below the tax with one spot to fill. Could always move Naji for a cheaper league minimum guy and a 2nd and then convert Ryan or wait until Ryan's pro rated salary for the year falls below $500k.
So we realistically may be able to make that move and still add both Ryan and Matkovich.

For reference Ryan’s prorated salary (he will be the guy that’s converted this year, it won’t be anyone else) comes in at 26k per game, so he wouldn’t be able to be converted until there’s around 24 games left.
However, you have to fill that 14th spot with 10 day contracts until then which also counts towards the tax/cap, and thats about 100k per 10 day contract, so no it may not be realistic to trade Zeller/EJ and take back Richards while still bringing over Karlo and converting Matt, because right now with the guy we have on the 10 day we would only be 1.5 million under the tax line after making that deal, or 400k under the tax after bringing over Karlo.

If we trade Naji instead of Liddell that would give us another 125,000 but that only saves another week.
Posted on 1/24/24 at 1:48 pm to Dantheman504
That’s possible, however I would ask the same question I did yesterday, why jump through all these hoops for a 3rd center that will never see the floor and pay him 5 million dollars?
We could do far better in a trade than having to do tax gymnastics for a guy that will see the floor as much as Zeller does now.

1. If we do plan to move on from Val then it gives us good depth to finish the year and a bridge to finding our next center if we shake things up during the offseason.
2. I agree if it’s a 1 year rental then don’t do it.
3. The only other reason would simply be to fill a need over an issue. If we can’t pay Naji and can get someone that helps the roster build then why not. But yeah that’s a lot of gymnastics

I don’t care. I’m explaining why you are wrong and why would you responded back with doesn’t make sense.
I don't even know what you are tryign to prove i'm wrong about.
All i said was the tax line would be near $220M in 3 years, and then you go off calling me a dumbass about Jose and whatever else you're trying to say regarding the tax in 3 years. WHo gives a shite?
I'll say it again for you as clear as I can.
I don't care about your projected numbers of salary, b/c i can guarantee you whatever players you are assuming will be here in 3 years, won't all be here.
Do you have any idea what our roster looked like 3 years ago? Where we worried about paying Lonzo and Hart and Reddick and Bledsoe and Adams and Kira and Didi and Melli and Jaxson? there's literally 3 guys on the team currently from that roster 3 years ago.
Lets take the Nuggets for example. What did their roster look like 3 years before their championship?
2023 roster who played significantly in playoffs
Jokic
Murray
Porter
Gorden
Bones
Bruce Brown
KCP
Jeff Green
Christian Braun
Jokic
Murray
MPJ
Jerami Grant
Monte Morris
Paul Milsap
Gary Harris
Torey Craig
Mason Plumlee
PJ Dozier
Only 3 guys are still there from 3 years before they won the championship. 3 guys. 3 guys are still there. They currently have 3 guys from their playoff team 3 years before. 3 guys. 3 guys.
But sure lets plan for BI, Zion, CJ, Trey, Hawkins, Herb, Dyson to all still be here in 3 years, and lets get our panties in a wad about it today. Dumbass.

I'd personally see what's available in the buyout market. There will be some gems out there.
Posted on 1/24/24 at 2:22 pm to Aussie_Pelican
Buyout market is usually old tho. We already have Zeller, the point in any move for a center is to get someone that will be here longer than 1 season or it’s kinda pointless.

OKC, Bucks, and Celtics couldn’t have come at a better time. Pels are healthy, let’s find out and reduce the noise.

quote:You say that, but have you watched him play? $5 million is a bargain for a guy that could get significant minutes next year when we lose JV. Would he not be more valuable than Liddell and Zeller?

Yes I have watched him play, but is he a starting center for us? Do we still have to find a starting center?
If we still have to find a starting center next season, then he is still the 3rd center on the team behind whoever we sign/draft/trade for and Nance.
Richards is a good backup center, but we already have one of those.

I’d agree with the trading Fyson instead part. Allen might be slightly better/more impactful than Herb this second, but by this time next season, that probably wont be the case.
I truly don’t think JA is a Championship needle moving piece for anyone unless he’s somehow on that Durant, Booker, Beal team instead of Nurkic. (And I don’t think the Suns can feasibly trade for him)

I agree. WHich is why i kept asking, what is our problem at the 5 right now.
No one is goign to argue that Allen isn't better than JV or Larry, but does he really make us that much better by replacing one of them? Should we give up Dyson and a 1st to likely still not make it past the 2nd round at best?
Going after a Nick Richards, or Day'Ron Sharpe seems like a good move imo, b/c if you get to work them out and they actually show that they can replace JV, then you don't have to bring JV back next year and then you can really go hunt for a backup 4 that can shoot so Trey can play more as a 2/3 with Hawkins.
Day'Ron Sharpe is having a nice season in Brooklyn, and has been better than Claxton. just turned 22 in his 3rd year.
I'd trade EJ and 2024 lottery protected 1st for him.

MM has been pounding an interesting drum. Don't trade JV for an upgrade at center, but guard. Basically something like JV/players/picks go out and get something like Caruso and Drummond back.
Basically Caruso is already as good as you hope Dyson can become, so all these arguments over Dyson vs Jose go away and you just solidify your rotation. You take a step back at center, but Drummond isn't bad and may be all we need skill wise.

That's an awful trade that does nothing for the Pelicans.

Yeah pass on Caruso, he’s great but what problem is he solving for us? I do want Drummond though as a 3rd string big.
Could you get Drummond for zeller and Naji?
