I’m not trading JV for Gafford. I’d trade Larry for Gafford though. Get a little bit younger and less injury prone. Gafford is bigger and a better rim protector.
I’d do Larry + EJ + 24 1st for Gafford + 2-3 2nds

I don’t know if we would trade Larry though, he’s one of the leaders we covet

Cleveland can want Herb. But they gotta pay big if they want him

Gafford is a solid backup center. Trading Val and Naji for just that is getting fleeced.
Those picks would have to come to us considering Naji is worth at least a 2nd and Val, again, is better than Gafford.
One thing to remember is JV is expiring and he may want more money than we are willing to pay, so we have a chance now to flip his salary for a lower salary that we couldn’t afford in the offseason.
That’s really the only reason you do this. And as others have said, with how good this team plays with Larry in the rotation, I just don’t see him being the one that gets traded, especially since he’s our closer at the 5

Yeah, if Cleveland demand Herb for Allen its a no brainer, you make that deal.
I don’t see Allen being realistic with how great Cleveland has been playing though, maybe in the offseason but we might not have the salary to trade by then.

I respectfully disagree.
Allen can’t even be on the court at the end of games b/c he sucks from the line.
Herb is going to end up close to 40% from 3 this year, all nba defense and makes half of what Allen does.
I’ll take Herb over Allen all day everyday.

He's 75% this season and 71% for his career.

My bad. I ASSumed he wasn’t any good since he never takes any shot outside of a dunk.
I’d still rather Herb than Allen, and I think it’s blasphemous to trade Herb for anyone.

We would be stupid to trade Herb.

No you don't.

Here’s my scenario predictions
1. Sign and trade big man. No one likes it. Get another veteran wing.
2. Get a kickback for a Portland pg, if so, go get rozier.
3. Or go get depth and make a push!

Bingo. If the trade happens it's because we don't want JV NEXT year or can't sign him to a reasonable extension and aren't going to just let him walk. So we trade him for a replacement that is acceptable, maybe a little better fit, and is under contract at a reasonable price for the next 2-3 years. That's the scenario, not "JV sucks."

I can see us trading Val and Jose for Allen. Jose is enticing enough for us to maybe not attach several 1sts or at least a protected pick.
Hell you can even try and do Liddell/ Zeller and pick for Nick Richards.
Sign Matkovich and Ryan
CJ/ Dyson
Herb/ Hawk/ Ryan
BI/ Trey/ Naji
Zion/ Nance/ Matkovich
Allen/ Richards
Reading between the lines it looks like Jose may be on the block with the recent minutes played. There’s no way we can keep Jose and Naji so 1 of them most likely will be gone. The question is which one allows us to get the best return without giving up picks? Jose/ Naji/ Val for Allen may work without any picks.

Just food for thought. I’m not pushing this or making it a last resort

would be assanine to trade Jose.
He's still under contract next year. Naji isn't.
I don't understand why we have to do anything. Can we just make it to the fricking playoffs healthy for once and actually see what we have with this current team? No trade at the deadline will make us a championship contender this year. Just be patient and make the moves necessary to compete for championships this offseason.
There's a reason the Cavs don't want Jarrett Allen. They want to shoot more 3's (sounds familiar). Mobley doesn't shoot 3's. Guess what? Zion doesn't shoot 3's either. I got no problem with JV sitting at the top of the key, pump faking 4 times and taking 5 seconds to decide to pull the trigger as his man leaves him alone to stop Zion.

I’d lose it if we traded frickin Herb for J Allen
And I know J Allen is solid and plays a nice role
But he’s older and Herb is supposedly our alpha/ leader. I don’t think Allen is team leader quality.
Also, considering J Allen and Mobley got punked by Mitch Rob in the playoffs last year. I’m pretty sure he’d also get punked by real centers like AD, Jokic, Sengun, Embiid, Gobert, Sabonis, Jonas, Etc.
I don’t think he’s worth much tbh. Not a championship level piece more than an elite 3D leader/defender like Herb that can also dribble and pass better than J Allen.

Yes. As I said above, just food for thought….. Take a breathe.
We have to pay BI and Trey next year. Dyson/ Hawk shortly after that.
Are we paying Jose? Doesn’t seem like it.
Would replacing Allen with Val be a solution? Not terrible.
Does Jose get that deal done without giving up extra picks? aka (how we sustain our team going forward) Yes.
So you do it for those reasons. An extra year of Jose is irrelevant if the target is 3 years with Allen.
Again I’m not saying we should or that I have an issue with our current roster. But not doing it for “an extra year of someone not in our long term plans” is a little shortsighted.

Allen is better than Herb but I'd do just about anything to keep Herb and do Dyson.
You can have multiple 1sts along with Dyson before I'd want to do Herb instead.
