JV to Wizards, Naji to Cavs, Gafford to Pels?
Cavs send multiple 2nds to Wizards?
Seems like the easiest kind of deal to make.

Yeah not sure trading JV for Gafford makes this team better. Adding him as a backup to JV does though.

Gafford is a solid backup center. Trading Val and Naji for just that is getting fleeced.
Those picks would have to come to us considering Naji is worth at least a 2nd and Val, again, is better than Gafford.

He's not a good rebounder, about the same as Larry. I agree, trading JV for Gafford doesn't seem like the move, but the only other option is something built around Nance. Upgrading Nance because of his injury history seems like a thing to do on paper, but with his leadership and how well the team plays when he's healthy, I just don't see the Pels making that move.

I just don't get why we'd sign a backup big to be our starting center and give up the lesser center AND an additional asset.
We'd be much better off trading Naji separate for a 2nd or adding him to another deal and finishing out this season with Val as our center and pivoting to work on the upgrade in the offseason. The MLE is $13mil, I don't know who that guy may be off the top of my head at this moment, but that's an avenue to get a dude in the exact same salary range as Gafford.

Another way this could work is trading Dyson, Naji and Cody. Then maybe throw in a protected first.
Creates more time for wings and you don’t have to trade Val/Nance. The question is are people ok trading Dyson basically for Gafford?

Another thing to consider is that this is just posturing and not actual interest in Gafford. It could be a message for Cleveland to back off wanting Herb.

Cleveland can want Herb. But they gotta pay big if they want him and I think they blew a lot of their war chest getting Mitchell.
For one thing, I don’t think they can trade picks before 2030 because of the protections on their trades picks.

It would come down to whether we see Dyson’s shot ever coming along and if Gafford is our center of the future.
Dyson’s an elite defensive player right now but at a position where we are fairly heavy.
I don’t want to trade him but, if we see Gafford replacing JV long term, I gotta at least kick the tires.

It doesn't. Gafford has different limitations than JV, and he might be a better fit, but he's not an upgrade overall.

Sure, if they give us back a 1st.
I’d like Gafford, but he’s nothing special, and definitely not worth giving Dyson away for.

A few months ago, I felt sure that Cleveland would want to get rid of Allen at the deadline. But the problem is that, without Garland and Mobley, the Cavs have gone on an absolute tear, and they are currently on an 8-game winning streak.
Allen has been great. And taking advantage of the extra minutes, Sam Merrill has gone on fire. He's shooting 43% from 3 on the season, and he has 69 points in the last four games.
I had actually been thinking about a deal of JV+Dyson for Allen+Merrill, but how can the Cavs trade the guys leading them to all these wins?

We’re not getting back a first. I get we may value Dyson a lot, but other teams are not giving a first and their starting center for a defensive only guard thats averaging 5 points a game, especially a rebuilding team like the Wiz. (I’m not hating on Dyson- I think hes an important part of our defense but we have to be realistic here.)

That was my way of saying I’m not trading Dyson for Gafford.
