What would you expect a hypothetical Pelicans trade for a Conley type player look like?

Randle, Moore, Hill, 2019 1st and 2nd?

It's irrelevant. The only way the Pelicans could have contended for a title is with a player the caliber of Davis. Couldn't get the surrounding talent to compete.

Most rational fans knew that, going in, the NBA is a league where you're either one of a handful of teams that legitimately compete for titles or you're the enhancement talent. The league is 20% Globetrotters and 80% Generals. It's why I've never been a huge NBA fan.

There is little that can be done systematically. When you're dealing with a sport where there are so few players on a team (versus football) it's too easy for the best players to band together and form super teams. More power to them but, overall, it leads to a lack of parity.

It doesn't really much matter what they get for Davis unless people really care about being first/second round fodder that will never win a title.

Winning 50 games and losing in the second round is still fun over the course of seven months.

I am fully aware and have told people that this franchise will never win a title. But life is all about lying to yourself and illusion. It's very possible to create a team good enough for fans to believe they COULD win the title.

Like the Nuggets. I know that they will never win it but I bet their fans are having a great time this year and are probably saying things like, "Even if we don't win it this year, next year we will get Michael Porter back and the Warriors will lose KD and we will go all the way!"

Sell a tiny bit now. Say we do my trade where Niko goes to Philly and we get Chicago's 2nd from Philly and Shake Melton.

Not a fan of that trade. Shake Milton isn't any good and that 2nd round pick has a very very low chance of turning into anything worth while. I'd rather keep Niko. I know he might get overpaid a bit, and I am aware he isn't the shooter some think he is, but what I know he is, is a guy that can win you a game single handedly from time to time, and that is not a common attribute among NBA players.
I'd rather trade him for Landry Shamet if we are doing something with Philly, no need to send the Bulls 2nd with that.

If you can't get a promising young player like Shamet for Niko, then don't trade him. I don't necessarily disagree with what your trade is trying to do, I just think Niko is worth more than that.
Randle is the guy that needs to get traded for something like that. If the plan is to still be competitive after AD trade, then I want to resign Niko. I see no reason at this point why Randle should be on this team after the trade deadline. Get something for him now while you can b/c you aren't resigning him no matter what happens with AD.

Like the Pelicans last year and this past offseason.
Last year was a lot of fun, and the offseason was great and full of excitement. Wasn't there a few thousand people at that open practice they have every year, when it's usually a few hundred? There was a buzz around them to start the season.
We went from, we can make the WCF to we should tank.

Yes. Winning isn’t everything. The We Believe Warriors defined a playoff season and didn’t win. Sometimes franchises need to aim for the playoffs, but frankly the West is too freaking good to aim for the 5th seed every year. Hell 14 teams were vying for spots this year and 6 will be left out in the cold, which is more miserable.

Regular season dominance is rather enjoyable, though. I know it’s too soon, but Saints Fans have had two fun years of being near the very top of the league. One could argue its the best 2 year run ever for them & the fans have had an air of confidence like never before.

On than note, I don’t think Gayle and Mick are turning their attention to the Pels and trying to build a winner here, nor do I think they trade off pieces or acquire(it’s a sellers market) any.

Apathy is the culture.

I am just happy we will know in the next 7 months or less. They will show once and for all their level of concern or apathy. Maybe they will surprise me and do things right. If not, at least my suspicions will be confirmed

Fair enough. To me, though, it's just an illusion. I'm sure they'll get decent assets in exchange for AD.

Illusioms and hope get people through life. Maybe 1% of people realize their dreams. But people still enjoy happiness every day because we can convince ourselves that our dream will happen "any day now"

The only move we should make if possible is for Beal.. Otherwise, stand pat and go with what we have

Disagree.... Beal (which won't happen) or sell

Standing pat is, in essence, buying.

If you can sell something for $5 but choose not to sell it, then you have effectively bought that item for $5.

Bringing this to the Pelicans.... if you could sell Randle for a high 2nd or a prospect like DiVincenzo and you choose not to, then it is literally the same as if you didn't have Randle on your roster and chose to give up a high 2nd or DiVincenzo for him at the deadline. Which we would all agree is stupid

Not selling is buying. And Pelicans shouldn't buy unless its Beal. So standing pat is wrong too.

He's just a name that represents the idea. You can undoubtedly become a seller and get a little something right now. And if you choose not to - you are a buyer by omission

In Ryno's final year, Dell had an offer of an expiring and a future protected first from the Cavs for him. Dell said no, Ryno walked for nothing.

In essence, Dell traded a first round pick for 25 games of Ryno in a lost season. Hopefully he learned from that and won't do it again. But I won't hold my breath.

doesn't matter what happens with AD, Randle won't be on the team next year, so it would be extremely irresponsible to not trade him right now.

Agree. I can see the argument in not trading Niko. Re-sign him with Bird Rights and see if he fits. At worst, he can be an asset later. Same with Moore - he might be an asset next year too. But I see no argument for not trading Randle if the team is 23-31 in a few weeks, as I expect they will be.

For sure. If this team loses a high rate between now and the deadline they have to move Randle and get something for him. Have to. There's no way they retain him in the off-season.

Give me Monk, Biyombo, and Charlotte's first and I'll be stoked.

The Pels were the only team listed as buyers? At least Demps should get his pick of what the sellers are selling then.

No, just shortening the list.

Portland, 76ers and Rockets on the buy board as well.

Pels as noted by many are the most obvious buyers.
