8-31, yet entire core is untouchable. Pels have no size, no multiple shooters, no first round pick. Too much to name, just make it make sense.

Why is this organization so tied to this limited skill set guy? This current GM didn’t even draft him.

The Hawks didn't cut Young they traded him for salary filler the Pelicans right now can't even get that for Zion.

Yes they could, very easily. But they want more, as they should.

Cutting Zion now without getting matching salary in return would kill any hope of future team building as it would put you under the cap limiting your options.

I don't know what any of this means. Every trade has to be done with matching salaries, unless you have cap space, and there's only two teams with cap space, and it ain't us.
The Hawks traded Trae for expiring salaries. key word there is expiring. So they basically traded him for absolutely nothing no different than just cutting him, except they have the option to keep CJ or Kispert next year if they want.

All that being said, Zion and the salary cap/tax situation for this team is irrelevant. We aren't a tax team, we aren't going to be. It makes no difference if we are above or below the cap, but i'd prefer to be below so we can do uneven trades or take in salaries to get more draft capital. Any move right now, or this offseason, should be with the mindset of what this team looks like in 2 years.

The best time to trade Zion is the off season when more options will be open

I would agree, but if Zion gets hurt again, then those options will be next to nothing. That's the risk in not trading him now. And if he does get hurt again, he's very likely not going to get his future salaries guaranteed so we could cut him in the offseason.

Because there are enough fans out there like GOP_Tiger, SoggyMoss and whatiknowsofar on here who think this team can win with just a few ancillary tweaks to the Zion-led core.

It's enough to make ownership feel comfortable enough to not have to actually do real work.

B/c Dumars is our gm, they know anything is possible with him running this titanic.
I thought Griffin/Demps were the worst GMs that ever happen for franchise. Then Dumars comes and says hold my beer

His value will only decrease. He will never be healthier than he is right now. He is a declining asset.

I agree with keeping Jones, Murphy, Queen, and Fears off limits. Zion is the only real tradeable asset that we would benefit in trading.

Explain how just cutting Zion would help the team with the current cap situation.
Current, not much.

But Zion's contract being guaranteed will go on for much longer than just "currently" so we need to cut bait before the next guarantee kicks in.

Actually halfway intelligent. Definition of selling low across the board if Zion’s value is what yall speculate.

Why the frick would we trade Queen or Fears? What a preposterous addition to the headline. Those dudes are the future of the team. Can’t take these people seriously saying shite like that.

Exactly!!!
Zion contract is still guaranteed, simply not fully (right now it's 20%). So people here are suggesting to take Bucks road and have 8-9 mil on the books for next two seasons.
And imagine the backlash from lots of fans (there are still plenty going to the games because of him) and National media if we do it while he is healthy and playing.
It's really puzzling how many people are disliking the news but at the same time do not trust Dumars to make trades. Somehow you expect him to get fair value for Herb or Trey at the deadline?!? Looking at Trae value how many picks you think we will get for them right now? And will anyone give '26 pick?
And who will give you a pick for Zion right now, especially when they have to send 40mil back? His value will NOT be lower in the offseason, simply because it's at the bottom of the ocean. But if he miraculously stays healthy and keep improving his stats we might actually get a pick in the offseason.
I am sure that if we make the same trade as Hawks you will be still complaining.
The only worrying part of the article is that it didn't mention Poole. And if we trade him now we will attach picks.
