Stein says all signs are pointing to Murray staying in Atlanta.

Jose makes under $2M per season and his value to us is way higher than that. He also contributes a spark off the bench that no other player can consistently provide for us. We’re not going to throw him in for salary purposes.

We don’t want to trade Herb either, but his salary makes more sense and what he does can be picked up by Murray and trey. I’m still not really sure what we have in Dyson Daniels, which to me makes him more expendable at this point

That’s probably what will happen, but if Atlanta thinks we’re asking too much they’d want to put out something saying they aren’t dealing anymore

Bc if you want anything of value in return you have to send out valuable players

No point in getting Murray unless you are getting a defensive center as well. Having a defensive center will allow Herb to gamble more and purposely funnel players into where he wants them. Herb can funnel someone like Ja into what should be a bad contested shot but instead Ja just rises above JV for easy buckets.

I agree. But there may be other options for a defensive center. There aren't many options for a two way ball handler, especially at his contract level.

Murray doesn't complete this team, but I like going into the offseason with Murray and 7 1st round picks more than I like going into the offseason with a free agent Jonas and 9 first rounders.

I could be wrong, but from the way Griffin talks about CJ, I don't see Griffin trading for Murray without consulting CJ. CJ may be just as open to a similar deal as Westbrook was for LAC.

CJ is definitely a leader on the team, and I'm not suggesting trading him. I'm just saying that he may not be interested in continuing playing after this deal, he seems like a guy that is going to have plans after playing.

I'm not talking about trading him. I don't think talks would have even gotten this far if CJ wasn't on board with bringing in Murray, especially when he would be the most affected.

Griff has made trades every year. Including big ones like CJ and Nance. And AD and Jrue.

Wouldn't Naji (2) 1st or Naji, Jose, 1st make more sense than trading Dyson and a 1st?

For the Pels? Of course.

For the team we're dealing with, of course not.

I never said for "salary purposes". It has to do with playing time and future cost. I love how everyone on this board views our current starters like they will all forever have rookie contracts.

Jose is an expiring next year with Trey/ BI extentions kicking in the next year and Dyson/ Hawk shortly after that.

But again, Jose has very little value compared to a Herb or Dyson right now, plus the salary matching that is needed.

Adding Herb to a deal means there's a bunch of other shite you don't have to add. Adding Jose does not, that team will still want that 1st or whatever, Jose won't move the needle much. Herb obviously does, Dyson likely can replace a 1st...Jose does not.

If we are talking about late rd 1st then I think it does move the needle.

Dyson= no 1st attached

Naji= (2) 1st attached

Jose= (2) 1st attached

Naji + Jose= (1) 1st attached

Is this not a fair value comparison?

This isn’t happening. Haynes said the talks have halted with no progress in sight.

Don't believe anything you hear on the morning of trade deadline day.

Nah, I don't think that anyone would value Naji+Jose at a first round pick combined.

I saw that - i think the piece they wanted was Okongwu anyway so perhaps that is still open?

Definitely posturing, but that doesn't mean that a deal is going to happen either.

I'm talking about the elephant in the room. We don't have minutes for (2) of Naji/ Jose/ Dyson/ Hawkins.

Jose played 13 min last night. Hawkins played 2 min. That's without Naji playing and Val getting hurt. If we add a viable backup center that can play 20-30min then where the frick do yall think we pull these minutes from?

Moving Naji helps but it doesn't fix anything. A decision still has to be made between (1) of Hawk/ Dyson/ Jose
