Zeller and Naji work though.

nbastream Trade talks between the Hawks and Pelicans on Dejounte Murray could escalate today into an agreement.
New Orleans is also trying to acquire Clint Capela or Onyeka Okongwu in the same deal with Murray.

This was just posted a few minutes ago from an IG that posts NBA news.

There’s the holdup. We want a center back too.

"Could escalate" just means they have nothing new to report

Woj bomb incoming? Based on the players salaries discussed, who would have to go out? It’s fun to speculate. Herb Jones better not come out of anyone’s mouth.
Posted on 2/8/24 at 7:26 am to BigPerm30
JV has to go out to start to make salary work and he’s expiring which is what they’d want. We can assume they’d want [REDACTED] as well
They paid 3 firsts for Murray so they’ll want picks as well.

What does Murray give us that we don’t already have? I’m trying to figure out where he’d fit in.

Wish we could make a trade that would have the same effect rondo had years back...don't know who that would be
Posted on 2/8/24 at 7:38 am to cgrand
Val and Naji will most likely be gone today if we are serious about any of the potential moves. The real elephant in the room is Dyson/ Jose. Will we have the minutes for both and Hawkins? Especially if we add Murray? Can we pay Jose/ Dyson/ Hawk?

I really hope we don’t get Murray. He really isn’t even that special . Hawks have been worse since attaining him , he has a lot of empty stats , and his inconsistent . He would create an even bigger headache with the current jam for minutes at the guard spot , and he doesn’t cover any needs … and we will probably have to give up a young prospect for him , Dyson / hawk … not worth it

Or we can give up (2) future firsts with Naji and Val. We can have him as insurance for BI if we need to move one of them. Best case scenario it's another high caliber player that can help the team. Worst case scenario he sits the bench and we have a full roster that can take his minutes before we move him.

We aren’t trading BI you morons.
And we aren’t trading CJ, who’s having a career year and has been killing it from 3.
We aren’t interested in way overpaid Capella and the only way we make a trade for Capella/Murray is with someone like CJ or BI going out, b/c there’s no way we are trading 2 out of JV/Larry/Herb to make that work.
There is no scenario we make a trade for Murray/Capella.
It’s JV/Dyson for Murray/Okongwu and I don’t even know what the point of that trade really is.
You gonna bring Murray off the bench? He’ll love that.
Did you see how much we were abused by Zubac without JV last night? Larry/Okongwu can’t handle guys like Jokic, Zubac, Gobert, and Nurkic.
This is all Hawks leaks trying to increase the trade value for Murray that they are trying to trade to some other team.
We are a team with lots of assets so we are going to be used in leaks to try to entice other teams to make a better offer.

I absolutely do not want capela coming back. He's washed.
Posted on 2/8/24 at 7:53 am to TeddyPadillac
We’d probably pick up another, bigger center to deal with the guys you mentioned but I do think Okongwu allows us to play the way defensively that Willie wants to play. Ofc it depends on the price to acquire him if it’s worth it or not.

Hmm, who does this sound like?

I'm not interested in Murray to be honest. He simply doesn't fit with our current starters of CJ/BI/Herb/Zion, and those 4 aren't going anywhere anytime soon. It seems dumb to play him off the bench.
I would love to get Okongwu.
If there's a way to send JV out, which would make me upset, as well as my wife, and get back Okongwu as well as another big body center, then i'm all for that.
I also think Okongwu can be the ideal 5 for us, even though he is undersized. I also think he is goign to improve his shooting.
So if we did a JV/EJ for Okongwu/Drummond, i'd be satisfied.
That keeps us $2.6M under the tax with 13 players, and then we can sign Ryan and Karlo. We'd need to get back some 2nds from ATL to send to the Bulls.

Im just not seeing how we fit Murray unless we are sending Herb to the bench which seems kinda dumb now?
Zion
BI
Herb
CJ
Murray
Trey
Dyson
Jose
Hawk
Larry
Assuming JV Naji Zeller for Murray

He doesn't have to fit with all the starters full time. If we get Murray then it could give us a bench unit of:
Murray/
Hawkins/
Dyson/
Murphy/
Nance/
That's strong. And the only example we have to compare a higher profile player with issues coming off the bench is Westbrook. It seems that everyone is talking about how well they have been playing.
