The missing piece

quote:

One of the prominent names that will also likely feature in the trade market will be Kevin Love. The Cavaliers forward is as disgruntled as they come in Cleveland – highlighted by his late-season “Shaqtin’ a Fool” moment – and could be on his way out of the franchise.

Hoops Wire reporter and longtime NBA journalist Sam Amico reported on Wednesday that the Pelicans were one of a number of teams interested in trading for Love.

Per sources, potential Love suitors include the Pelicans, 76ers, Heat, Clippers and Trail Blazers. It is believed Love is hoping to move on from the Cavs, but no trade requests have been made and sources say there’s no reason to believe a request is forthcoming.

Love is set to make $31.2 million next season and $28.9 million in 2022-23. Comparatively for New Orleans, Steven Adams is due $35 million over the next two seasons while Eric Bledsoe is guaranteed $22 million the next two seasons and potentially $37.4 million if his contract is guaranteed.

I’m assuming this is the same Amico story that was discussed in the catch all thread a few days ago. Amico is not particularly reliable. At all.

But…I could see Griffin being interested in turning Bledsoe/Adams into Love/asset.

We would be horrific defensively with Zion/BI/Love on the court, and Loves contract is putrid.

But he can definitely still play. He would solve a lot of rebounding issues, is a good shooter and an amazing outlet passer which would be fun. His contract could also be useful by the deadline or offseason as ballast for the star trade. Really useful.

There’s some severe negatives and some things that make it…sufferable.

They can't bring Bledsoe back, you brought him in to set the tone and he publicly admitted to what we all saw, not trying.

There aren't many sellers so unless the Pels shake something lose as a facilitator in a bigger trade like Simmons, you're probably looking at flipping bad contract for bad contract. Love, Bertans, Buddy are all likely targets.

What is a better trade asset? Love who only has 2 years left, or Bertans who only makes $16 but has 3 years left?

Do you not feel like Adams/Bledsoe=Love? I feel like that’s pretty equal, with no added picks from either side.

I would still want Love to be the third big, not sure if that would be the case though.

I personally think the Cavs have to add some sugar. They are breaking one horrific contract into two bad ones. Bledsoe only has one year left with second year only a partial guarantee.

He is. But you are doing them a bit of a favor. They get two contracts that are more tradeable, one an expiring. I’m not talking about an unprotected first. I’m talking like 2nds.

Yah Love is the better player, but he’s also a malcontent that’s a risk to go off the rails and/or have a panic attack at any given moment, so yeah, I think he can be had for an even swap of Bled and Adams who both suck arse, but are a bit more consistent personality wise.

Maybe they throw us a 2nd? Idk, I wouldn’t really hold a a deal up over it. Maybe we can toss them another small trade piece and they can send a another reasonable player back like a hartenstein, prince, or windler as the sweetener for taking on Love.

If they trade for this washed up guy, then it won’t be long before they move the team. It means they trying to kill the fan base

I’ve said in a few threads this would likely be the case after we strike out on our intended targets and Bertans should be the target for bad contract swaps. Love is the better player but is much older and oft injured. Don’t want any part of it. Bertans is at least elite as a 3pt shooter and that’s a skill we could always use.

Getting rid of Bledsoe or rerouting him to a 3rd team and getting Bertans wouldnt be bad. And just hang onto Adams one more year and try and trade him next year in our big move…,
